Please review this rock song...

I have been lurking on this forum for awhile and wanted to know if I could get some feedback on this song recently recorded. A few notes:

* The drum track was put together as a functional "test" of micing it to 4-tracks with the setup I recently put together. It was never intended to actually be used for the purpose here, but we are testing recording and I didn't have time to re-do the drums, so this is our first result.
* The mix consists of four guitars, the drums track, a bass track and a vocal track, all one-take wonders for testing the sound mix
* The vocal track was recorded in 1998! My old band is re-recording a bunch of songs from years ago with more modern equipment. Vocals have not been redone yet for this song, so I threw in some unfinished vocals from this same song, recorded 12 years ago and salvaged from a cassette tape.
* Drums were recorded using the drummerman technique with two AKG CS1000S as overheads and those crappy peavy "drum" microphones sold at guitar center on the snare and bass drum. Guitars were with the CS1000S, one of the peavys and the bass was a direct line through a POD 2.0. This was all to an... ahem, well my laptop, with a mish-mosh of USB sound cards. I have no pride in this, but there are monetary constraints at this point!

I am not looking for praise or even sheer put downs, but rather constructive criticism about what can be done to improve the mix. I am hoping to get feedback on EQ settings, mix levels, compression, or anything else you may think could be of value.

Hey man, with all respect I would like to ask you: why are you posting that? By no means is a bad song but, as you already have told us, it's not a final tune. There's no way to know what are the chances to have a good mix if you're using reference tracks. Remember all goes in a context, all is related, there's no isolated tracks but a whole tune.

So, my humble advice is: track everything you need to track, forget that voice track (I hear heard hisses here and there), remix your song, and repost.

Thanks... I will repost later w/o vocals. The reason I am posting now is because I wanted to get feedback to use on subsequent mixes and recordings I begin to refine. Instead of going somewhat blindly, whatever is not working with the reference material can aid me from your feedback. I could post another mix soon down the road, but I'd like to have some expert opinions on what I need to change now so that what I post later is an improvement. Does that make sense?

you don't need a reason. post whatever you want whenever you want.

the song is cool. the mix is rough, but you know that.
 
also, a great sounding mix of a well tracked song that sucks, still sucks.

start with a good song, record it well and mix it right. you've got step one down.

Thanks for your support... I know it's rough, like you said, but I am not 100% sure the best way to smooth it out. You have any advice, or places I can look to learn?
