Could you explain what the two pads do on the at3035? Are they useful for a singer?

One is a bass roll of and the other is a db pad.
the pad is used only if you are clipping with high SPL like a guitar amp. and the bass roll off is useful on vocals for you may not want 80hz and below on the vocal track.

You mean like this below? that was the exact setup for the vocal, including the strange expressions, ha ha ha, and no it's not me in the photo.

No up higher, at eye level say an other foot with the capsule.
Try turning the microphone up side down and not letting any part of it lower than your forehead or eyes.

I just got the mic. sounds good from the little i recorded but it had a little dent on the top of the grill. Are these things hard to take apart. I could see it being easy to hammer out. I don't know if audio technica or the store i bought it from could do anything for me.
