How do I...

Jump random people at night. Take their $10 and leave a CD.

Yeah I'm totally over it. This will never work. I'm not gonna form a new band to play live. I'm not signing up for FB or myspace. I'm not gonna beg a radio station to play it when I know they won't. I don't know any college professors. I'm not changing any of the songs. I was just looking for simple promotion ideas that require me to do next to nothing. It's just gonna be the greatest album that no one will ever hear.

Greg, you should do a cover of There's a Hole in the Bucket.:p

yeah but Gregs version would be there is an "@sshole in the bucket" and when you look in the bucket all you see is Greg...lol

Just kidding Greg.

I think the song would be perfect for a punk version, starting out kind of sinister and sarcastic, getting more frenetic and angry with each verse. Lots of possibilities with the lyrics.

Plus, it's originally a children's song, so if he put together a band they could do the elementary school assembly circuit.:D And sell some CD's.:D:p

You can type the actual word here. Ass. See? There's no need to use the @.

You need some kind of online portal to sell your swag. We sell a decent amount of records just from people following my signature line here.

Next: you need some credible reviews. People reading a good review will click on your link.

Also: since the proceeds are going to charity, see if the charity will host some songs on their website, or at least host a link to your stuff.

Make a video that rocks and put it on YouTube.

Otherwise, it's pay to play.

Facebook sucks.

All these quick solutions will never work.. facebook, myspace etc..

Sure get it on itunes but then you have to direct people there.

Get a website.. a real website.. then promote the hell outta your website with google, facebook, myspace.. you're gonna have to pay for that advertising space.. that's right you have to pay..

Make a few videos or even if it's just your album art with a song playing.. get that on youtube. Perhaps look into advertising spots on youtube...

Make posters, poster them around your city.. talk to small record shops to see if they'll sell your albums.. direct people to those shops..

It's all about advertising.. once people know who you are and where to get your stuff you'll be set.. make people think they SHOULD already know you.. this is basically what a label will do for you.. but if you can invest some cash then you can do it yourself (on a smaller scale)

If you think all these ideas suck then don't bother... if you don't care enough about your music to put an effort into it no one else will either.

Way ahead of you. They do suck and I'm not bothering.

if you don't care enough about your music to put an effort into it no one else will either.

That's the conundrum. I care about my music. I just don't care if anyone else does. I just want them to buy it.

Get these guys to do a write-up on your CD.

http://www.txmusic.com/

I met one of the editors, can't remember her name (not the same as cantthinkofname) and she said they are always looking for new artists to write about.

Greg ...Just get some really, really big speakers and turn them all the way up so as everyone in Texas can hear them.

You gotta be willing to put some kind of work into it. You're alienating yourself before even trying any of these ideas. If you're not going to play live you have to be involved in some kind of local or state wide music scene.

Some people I know who have basic music related websites attend live shows and sell merchandise without playing live. Some don't even play music. They're just into music, music listeners who decided to promote the music they love. They communicate with the people who set up these events and with the bands as well. They ask to set up a table and find some simple gimmicks to get people to their table and let them check out all the stuff they have.

A lot of times if you are involved in some kind of music community opportunities become open to you. You have to do something. Let people become involved in your music, friends, family, people you meet online.

Hell, I'll buy a copy from you. I like your tunes and I'm just some random guy you met on the net. Don't let your negative outlook keep you from stepping out a little more. :spank:

Get your Greg_L CD here!!! the price is right! the line forms right behind me.
No need to push and shove there is plenty for everyone.
Also includes the smash hit.."Shit Eating Grin" as seen here on HR.Com
Once you hear it you'll say "how could I have lived with out it"

I have found that if you ring radio stations and ask them can you come on for an interview and/or a live song you can often get on. I've been on 3 or 4 stations including a national station, just by ringing up.

But that would require a phone call.

Perhaps you guys missed the 3 or 4 times that I said I don't have a band and don't want one.

You wouldn't need a band to do a radio interview. You'd just talk about recording, performing, writing, inspiration, etc., and they'd play selected tracks.
