Hi

Im looking into getting a Mbox 2 with protools this month however i might be acquiring a Yamaha MX200 24 channel analouge mixing desk too. I am not sure however that i can use the two together very well. With the mbox only having 2 channels i can only record main left and right out, correct?

However i wanted to know how i would be able to record using all of the channels (or at least enough to record a drum kit). At my university we have an Yamaha O2R mixing desk, this is then run through protools via busses, this then allows audio to be record and played back using the desk.

Could someone please explain this type of large set up to me?

thanks alot!

if you intend to run via busses you need an interface which can have 8 inputs (for drums)

thats what i thought. say if i got a digidesgn 001, could i slave it to my mbox? creating 10 channels?

i dont think there is anyway to chain the mbox to the 001. but im no expert.

Your Yamaha mixer should have 2 main outs.........L/R or 1 and 2.....whichever.

You can plug in as many mics from your drums as your mixer will allow......

Most drum kits only use 5 or 6 mics though, unless you have a large drumset.

so it would go like this.......... lets just say you are using 6 mics.

1. plug your 6 mics into the XLR inputs 1 through 6 on your mixer

2. The mixer will "blend" those mic signals together and send them straight to the Main outs on your mixer.

3. Plug your main outs from your mixer to your Line Inputs on the Mbox.

Good luck man!!!!!!

CHEERS!!!!!

this can be done, but I wouldnt recommend it...you really need an 8 channel interface to get each mic to its own channel for processing later....if you do it the way stated above, you have no control over each drum individually and basically you better have it right from the start....there are plenty of 8 channel interfaces available for not much more than the Mbox2...especially on ebay....

Cheers guys.

I could use the L/R outputs of my desk but i wouldnt be able to mix them seperatly later would i?

Could you name afew well priced interfaces that work with digidesgn protools? for example do the focus right ones work?

thanks!

also i was wondering, would i need a seperate mic preamp if it was coming out of the main L/R. The mbox has some but i dont know if it woud be bipassed?
