Looking for a good chorus ....

.... for 100 bucks or less. I have one I like, The E.H. Electric Mistress. It's a flanger and a chorus and a nice sounding one.
I guess I could just get another one of those but I'd as soon get something different.
I need a second one 'cause I need two pedal boards. One for my Mark V which will go thru the FX loop and won't need any distortions, and a second board for everything else. I already have a good normal board for the everything else amps so I'm building one for the V.
I have a few others and the Rocktron Aqua something or 'nother isn't too too sucky, so I can't justify spending much money since the Rocktron is adequate. So if I can find something for 100 or less I'll get it .... otherwise I'll use what I have.
Any good suggestions?
I don't like chorus's that have any 'flangy' or metallic sound to them. I like a lush liquid chorus that doesn't change the sound of the git much but simply makes it chorus. And smooth ....... I hate those choruses that have a 'lumpy' sweep where it gets to one spot and then almost jumps ahead in the cycle.

they used to have sound clips hmm..wonder where they went? idk, i really enjoy it. i like using it on chords etc obviously, but i also love using it for that 80's style RHCP style funk guitar, with a strat and the gain set to like, 3-4. i've had it for a few years now and she's always working great. i use mine in my JCM in the effects loop and i love how it sounds

The original Boss chorus (CE-1?) is nice sounding but it doesn't have a mix control - it's either on or off, and when it's on it's a bit too intrusive for my taste.

The Boss CE-5 Chorus ensemble is much more versatile, as it has a mix function as well as independent treble and bass filters. I think the street price for the CE-5 is around $90.

Just picked up an Analogman standard chorus pedal a few weeks ago....excellent!
Has that fat/warm chorus sound...very retro.

I also picked up a TC Electronics SCF prior to the Analogman...and I can't stand it! Hated it 15 seconds after I plugged it in.
It's got a lot more features, but sounds like total ass, IMO.
VERY metallic sounding...you would swear it was some crappy digital pedal by it's sound...but it's actually all-analog!
But then, there's guys that WANT that metalic sound in their chorus.

I will be getting rid of the TC on my next eBay go-round.....

I think that you must have been smoking way too much crack...IMO. The TC Electronic SCF sounds beautiful, clear, and lush and not the least bit metallic. TC is world renowned for having some of the best modulation effects on the planet. Maybe you are so used to hearing noisy, grainy, distorted analog effects that a quiet, clean one sounds digital to you.

Like I said, some guys love the TC chorus...I think it sounds like ass.
That's not a slight on your tastes...it just shows that we all hear things differently…which is why there are SO MANY pedals out there…all with their own flavor.

I found other people in reviews who said the exact same thing about it...and likewise, many who loved it. Funny...the guys who fell in love with the Analogman almost all disliked the TC...so go figure, there must be some connection.
I just hear a metallic, edgy quality to the chorus that is not very appealing to me.
The flange and pitch FX are OK, and you get a lot of bang-for-buck with the TC…but I think the Analogman chorus is much sweeter…and that’s really what I was focusing on. I have the flange and pitch stuff covered with other pedals.

Lt. Bob - If you hate the Analogman chorus, I'll buy it off you for a spare (assuming you get it for a decent price )...I got mine for $150 on eBay, which is a good used price.

Not the newer small ones, but you can usually find the older ones for around $50 on ebay, etc. Lush, no frills analog chorus in a metal housing made like a mini bomb shelter. Also 18V for more headroom.

For a different flavor, check out the Boss Digital Dimension pedal. They haven't made them for a while, but look for the one with 4 silver buttons (that's all it has. No knobs, no confusion

It's super deep, but you don't get that good old warble so forget about faux leslie stuff. It sounds more like a detuned doubler. Really haven't heard anything else like it.

I like the Cool Cat as well. And another idea for a cheap chorus, look for older DOD pedals. They always fly under the radar, other than the 250 OD. I have an FX60, and it's like a CE-2 ($$$$$ on eBay) but with more Depth. And you'd save at least $100 if not much more. I paid $35 for mine out of a pawn shop.
If they're all based on the same BBD chips, they'll all sound roughly similar. I guess the difference may be in a tweak here or there. But between my CE-2, FX60, FX65, Cool Cat, and BBE Mind Bender, they're all good. That's why I have them all .

Has anyone else here had a reliability issue with DOD stomp boxes and effects? Every time i've picked one up (granted it's been at least 7 years since the last one) i've had issues with them breaking or failing in someway in a really short period of time.

Nope...I've got a DOD Flanger 670 that's about 28 years old and it still works fine. I also have an FX 68 Super Stereo Chorus that functions perfectly after many years of abuse.

I've got an 18V Danelectro Cool Cat and I think it sounds very cool. I haven't heard a chorus stomp box in its price range that I like better.

The 18V power supply for the Cool Cat gives it more headroom, which I really like. And, it's not a plastic 'toy'. Yep, for cheap and even 'intermediate' priced pedals, they're hard to beat.
The old DOD pedals sometimes have issues with the footswitch. I have had a few go wonky, and maybe it was the footswitch itself, and other times it's the treadle. I have no idea why I thought of it, but adjusting the treadle screws seems to make the footswitch magically work every time for a long time. I know I have some old Ibanez pedals that the tact switch part of the footswitch just gives up and bends itslef out of shape. You either replace it with something from Small Bear or take it apart and with a jeweller's loupe and a dental pick bend the leaf springs back so they make contact.

I think that's a good chorus ! You can have it for alot less than $100. Alot less.
