What do you guys use for gang vocals? a nice LDC im assuming. I have a SM7 for vocals right now but that's it. So the only use this mic would get would be for gang vocals. Also what pattern might one use? Would you suggest cardioid and have everyone in front of the mic? or maybe space them out and use Omni? My room is treated. Off the top of my head i was thinking maybe an AT4040 or one of the Rode LDC's.

Whatever mic the gang steals and brings into the studio!

But seriously, omni, (gather round) or fig.8 (facing each other).

Shouldn't each gang member have a switch blade mic in their back pocket? :laughings:

We had 3 people in front of a MXL V67g and it worked out pretty good .

How many people are going to be in the gang of vocalist ?

where do you live? I'm from around Delafield and I could lend you a couple different mics to try out or just use if this is a one time deal....

Wow thats the closest i've ever gotten to anyone on here so far. I live in Hales Corners (it touches greenfield).

I could meet you in Pewaukee (farther for you but a small price to pay) Next to the Country Inn, I'm there every morning working out from 9 - 10:30 or so. (westwood Heath and Fitness) Let me know.. email manderson1@wi.rr.com

Is the gang going to be semi-circled (half circle / 180) to one side? Or a full 360 around one mic?

i could go either way on that. thats part of of what i was asking about i guess as well. id want it to sound as full as possible. sooo full circle????::confused:

I've had good luck doing madrigals (sort of early period gang vocals) with a coincedent (X-Y) pair of mics overhead and the vocalists arranged in a circle. You start with the weakest voices on axis, the strongest voices off axis, and then move them closer or farther away until the feeling is right. Another way that works if you have the mics is a Decca tree, but that requires 3 matched omnis. Either one doesn't require any particular mics, just the best ones you can lay your hands on. Mostly for this, I use a pair of Neumann KM184's or a pair of AKG C2000B's. This is not because they are necessarily the best mics for the job, they're just the best stereo pairs I own. I'd love to do this with a Decca tree using 3 Neumann U87's set for omni, but that's about $9,000 worth of mics.-Richie

Id go with my KSM44 in omni...if there is a lead Id combo with my AT4047 or KSM32 going straight at the lead...and put the KSM44 in figure 8 aimed to the side.
