rock guy
so back when I got my P42 Pro about 3 weeks ago, I bought some slinkies in 10's to throw on there...now, i've been playing the guitar everyday and really rocking out because she's brand new, and just tonight my A string broke when i was rocking some pinch harmonics lol (actually when i was playing panama and doing the harmonic on the 2nd fret...lol)....so yeah, after only 3 weeks they sound really dead (they really sounded dead/flat after like, less than a week) and now she broke.

so here's my question.....what do you guys think of super slinkies? what's another good set to put on here? i'm so used to playing strats and i ALWAYS used super bullets in 10's on my strats (and now i use the d'addario ej21 12 gauge on my fatstrat) but what should i go for with my parker? would superbullets even work with this bridge??? (it's a hard tail style, not trem!) i need a good set that isn't going to break on me after only 3 weeks of use lol

yeah, i'm thinking of giving boomers another shot....i actually used to use them frequently before i used the superbullets in my strats. i forget how they were though, because it's been so long...plus, they're like the cheapest of all the strings lol

see, the thing with me is i can't tell the difference between ANY strings. at all. they all sound the same to me, unless its bass, and they're flatwound or steel. but with guitar, i just play them all and they all seem exactly the same to me lol

Have been using Elixir's for a few years now. The nano web ones. Harmonics are a little trickier and you gotta be heavy handed on the pick scrapes cos of the coating, but they last for weeks and weeks with daily use. They don't rust up or go dull; they are not as zingy as a fresh pair of uncoated strings but I will never go back to normal strings. When I used uncoated strings I would change strings every week (because of the sound, not because they broke). Elixirs are especially good for the guitars you don't play so often.

If your strings are breaking check your saddles, don't just change the brand of strings and hope they stop.

Ernie Ball Super Slinkies were the popular string back in the '70s (at least around these parts) and I've used many sets of them.

They don't have the best tone out of the box, and what tone they have doesn't last all that long. I'd use them in a pinch but I'd never again pick them as my primary choice.

GHS Boomers sound very very hot and bright when new but their tone falls off really quick. If you can get 'em cheap and don't mind changing strings every couple of gigs worth of playing, they sound pretty good.

For years my string of choice has been Dean Markley "standard" nickel steel strings, which are now packaged as "Vintage." They have a nice bright tone and good longevity. And they're cheap as all get-out - you can get a 12-set multipack from MF for less than $30 shipped.

Ah, OK. I missed that you are using light top / heavy bottom.

ZB, I have told you this before 52 is not heavy..;)

52s have a noticeably larger theoretical dead spot near the bridge. That's because their heavier gauge makes them more similar to a utility pole guy wire.

;)

Yeah but that's 10-42. I got's to go 52.:D

Still, Im seeing $4 for the GHS and Ernie's maybe I should try theirs out.

...and just for the sake of accuracy, Markley regulars go up to 46, not 42. :)

I'm using Slinky's right now ..... haven't had any problems.
I prefer DR Extra Life but, like Elixers, they're expensive.
I tend to use whatever's on special.
!0-46 on my 25.5" scale gits and 11-52 on my 24.75" scale gits.

bit of talc will fix that right there for yer.

It works a lot better if you make a slurry out of WD-40 and talc, then just smear that all over the guitar. Doesn't hurt a thing, and leaves no residue. :)

haha thanks for the suggestions guys. i went out and got a set of guitar boomers for 5 bucks...but i decided to try the hybrid ones, the 10-52's. so we'll give them a shot and see how she sounds..i figured i'd try because i do a lot of half step, and sometimes go down a full step too sooooo for 5 bucks, can't go wrong

ugh. so turns out, i don't really like this whole, hybrid shit lol....i'd rather just have a set of NORMAL 10's. damnit. i'm so sick of buying strings and then just getting another set to replace them with bc i don't like them. second time this has happened with this guitar.

i suppose next i'll try REGULAR boomers in 10's, instead of this hybrid stuff. meh. another 6 bucks down the drain i suppose?

You gotta give them a real chance dude. Half a song isn't really enough.;)
