Hi, the only thing that comes to mind is the bass, i can feel it, but can't hear it. The rest is cool.

The drums could use some brightening or snap on the beat intro bar.
The bass does need something Gerry.
zero00 is almost right I can feel the bass & can hear some of it but it comes & goes.
Try this:
OCTAVE REPLACEMENT EQ
Frequency 100 Hz
Level -6 dB
Q 1.4
Frequency 200 Hz
Level +5 dB
Q 1.4
& a little peak at 3Khz.
Your songs get an extra kick along with real drums. Being excellent songs in the 1st instance means they really become fanmazing!
Well done to PI for the skins 'n' things.

I think the vocal needs to come forward more. You could compress it quite a bit harder to help even it out. Good rockin tune. Nice collab gentlemen

Thanks zero00, Ray and BH....

Hi, the only thing that comes to mind is the bass, i can feel it, but can't hear it. The rest is cool.

If I remember correctly, I think the (Rickenbacher) bass is being played through a 4X10 cabinet. To compensate for the highs emitted by the cabinet, the bass side of the eq on the bass head is up full, the mids and highs are turned down. It uses a line out from the head. When he plays the high strings on the bass it punches through the mix pretty easily. When he plays the low E/A strings, it's got few highs and tons of bottom end. I used a volume envelope to fix the volume problem on the low parts, to even out the level on the bass track. Before that it just "exploded" with bottom end during the choruses. I spent a few hours this morning trying to compress but the low parts remained undefined. The eq just added twang to the bass track which sounded pretty terrible. I may need to have Mike retrack to fix it. I've had this problem ever since he bought that cabinet ;). I've mentioned it to him so he's aware of the problem.

all sounds pretty good to me...

Id agree with the others, little more snap on the drums, bit of compression on the vocals other than that jobs a good un mate :)

Gerry,
Bass twang - ouch! No point in the 3Khz then. The cut at 100 & boost at 200 should have moved the signal along but if it didn't I'm lost as to other ideas.
You mentioned line out from the bass head - was that the signal you recorded - from a line out? or a mic'd cab? I keep misreading.

The bass is needing fattened up-compression I guess. The guitar solo is a little thin sounding as well. Vocal and drums sound alright I think.
Nice collab!

Yep Mike's bass tracked is from the line out from the head...this would be a Fender 400 head I think.

Thanks Tony - yeah the drums are great aren't they? Jason (poeticintensity) has done a number of tracks for me and they've all been super!

Thanks for the kudos, guys... It's always a pleasure playing for Gerry. He writes good stuff - and the mix sounds good, Gerry. I generally agree with the bass comments... Could use a bit more for sure.

As far as the snare pop, I'm slowly, but consistently getting it snappier. It's a wood snare, so it's gonna be a bit darker than a bronze or aluminum one, but still, even I'd agree, it's a very fat-sounding dark snare tone.

I'll be uploading a recording I did with a friend soon, and I believe the snare will be a *lot* more snappy. Come to find out that my mic position had a lot to do with the general darkness.

Anyway... I digress. Great stuff, Gerry. I always look forward to hearing more of your tunes!

Very nice song again Gerry, catchy and a good hookline.
Yeah the drums could use some EQ work to brighten them up. Jason's drumming is wonderful. Try to get some belly and chest in when you're singing, your voice is great but a slight bit of anger would make it even better....;). Oh, and some harmonies in the chorus would give colour to the great hookline. This is well on its way.

Joey :):):):)

Thanks Jason and Joey !

- I'm going to this sit for a few days. I have a few other songs I'm mixing that Jason has played on so maybe when they're done I'll attack this with a renewed vigor... :p

On headphones so I won't say much mix wise. Vocals sound great, guitars are nice and I think sit awesome in the song. I don't mind where the bass is at. Drums are fantastic. Love the song, great chorus. I always like hearing your stuff makes me realize why i'm not really a singer. Your voice is fantastic man. Glad I caught this, can't wait to hear the next few you said you're mixing.

Take Care
Gary

Thanks Gary! I'll post a few more of Jason's contributions once I get them all mixed. I've been remixing on computer so it's a whole new ballgame compared to hardware. I don't miss the static crackles from my ADAT but I do miss my compressor....:)
