join the military.

dad did that not for me brah

trust me, brah, you lack the discipline to become great at anything.

i once wanted to be a painter. not just any painter, but a GREAT painter, but i didn't want to bother with painting a thousand crappy pictures so i emailed some of the greatest painters in the world and asked them to quickly teach me everything they have spent a lifetime learning. not a single one of them ever got back to me because they're a bunch of dicks, just like musicians.

the military may not have taught your pops anything but it'll help you.

I don't see why asking to be coached by someone with talent is akin to having no discipline.

He's not saying he doesn't want to practice, he's saying he's low on dough.

Try going to www.soundclick.com/sinima and there's an email addy for sinima on his site. His beats are nice and perhaps he'd be willing to share some tips.

Your asking basically how to get to Carnegie hall.
everyone will basically tell you to..practice..practice..practice.

Take it ez, willis (ha, get it? ;))
Some people are a little to smart for their own good :D
and besides, it's the newbie forum.

I was walking around New York City the other day, and this guy came up to me with a guitar in a case. He said "How do I get to Madison Square garden"???

I said:

Practice.

While I get what you're saying and agree with it, this is the newbie section. Play nice.

whats there to learn from someone talented?

seriously I can make beats as good as the midi files that I have (well I think so lol)..

its taken me around 6 months, amongst learning everything else...Ive done it with some software, an MPD24, an MRT-3 drum machine, Abelton Live and a book called 260 drum patterns...now slap in a dollop of practise and some effort and thats all you need...

Use midi files and slowly start replacing there beats with yours...simple really

I cant see what talent is needed to tap out patterns and quantize them...not being flippant but there are no real shortcuts or great mystery???

a site without haters - impossible

Nah, no hating, you just can't handle the truth. :D

Too bad there's no EASY BUTTON for this one, huh?

You want to learn from the best? Then listen to your favorite artists and dissect what they do and how they do it.

Do you play an instrument? Do you have any musical knowledge? Because both of those would help in the task of actually making music.

Good luck. :)

sorry I thought I was being helpful

the book found the most use by far was "260 Drum Machine Patterns" by Hal Leonard...I picked it up for around $10

I picked up my MPD24 used for $80 though this was a good price, but you can also use a used M Audio trigger finger for around $100 both would suffice (even the little korg nano pads are going for $50 new Im just not sure how long one would last)

my MRT-3 is under $100..it is truly excellent for the price but has no midi out..so I programme and quantize within it

for drum software Drumcore has an excellent freebie with a couple of very usable kits here

http://www.drumcore.com/TemplateMain.aspx?contentId=65

for an 808 or 909 try superwave..these are amazing value for around $20 each...very very usable

http://home.btconnect.com/christopherg/main.htm

now what else do you want? I cant make you have a go and its only mucking about that you will learn...when/if you get stuck you just ask on the forums..there is no real talent required trust me, its just practise

and there are no haters here either but you will be made fun of if you ask for silly shortcuts, you will also need thicker skin to get past being a n00b too  :)

how was that not nice?

You don't even know the kid and you make statements like that. Everyone else in this thread responded nicely without passing any kind of judgement.

80% of the people posting in the newbies section don't even know what questions they need to ask. They need a little mentoring. If it's not something you can do with a little tact, then please don't post in the newbies section.

i run across this problem constantly. I don't browse the board by forum, i click on the New Posts button and read through the thread titles and respond to the ones i think i can help with. the analog guys are constantly jumping on me for posting in that forum but it's unintentional. I think i am banned from the nicey-nice forums for the same reason.

HOWEVER, if you are in favor of noobs requesting an expert's advice on how to be great without putting in the work to get there themselves, i will avoid suggesting they buckle down and go ahead and put the work in themselves since i know with absolute certainty that their requests will go unanswered.
