at least i hope that this is the final mix....i had this little melody in my head for the last 2 days

played only using the Yamaha Motif XS and recorded live (midi my ass) in reaper

The One by Duesenberg

let the old man know what you think about the mix and the song...all critics are welcome

oh...is it that bad?

It's not that bad. I like the song, the mix is excellent, everything has space and is defined. Really like the first few seconds. I am not sure why you aren't getting a lot of comments on the mix but I can tell you that it is polite to spend some time listening to and critiquing other people's songs before you get impatient about not getting any replies to your own. Its a two way road, you know what I mean? Other than that, I really dig your tune and happy posting.

true....i hear you.

guess i throw in some coffees and have a listen on what's around here

very nice playing indeed...

Id say the mix is missing bass...it all seems to be higher frequencies for me...id bring the bass guitar sound right up into it....and the rhythm just sounds like a metronome...Id maybe approach that too...if its going to stay simple perhaps a better sample would be the thing

if you dont have specific drum software Drumcore have an excellent give away with very usable kits

all in all nice job though...good layering

Onstu's right (and I have noticed you doing it) critique others and they give yours a listen...expect around a 10% return to listens...been a bit slow here snce new year but it will pick up

welcome aboard :)

oh...is it that bad?

hey man-

nope not bad :) i wanted to throw in my two cents. i was reminded of that peter gabriel song, 'solsbury hill'. really pleasant melody, too. i think this works as a final mix but...i agree with kcearl--bring up that bass guitar and you can bob your head to this pleasant-ness.

thank you so much....i guess i will keep the fretless bass in the background, but add another punchy bass connected to the kick drum

the tune rocks I love it. Although there is a bit much shine in there no?

this is so weird...

on another board, a couple of people told me, that i have way too much sub bass in the mix, while here everyone is pointing me to the missing bass.

guess i should really go for some good monitor boxes myself.

or what about headphones?...i have read a lot of good stuff about the Yamaha RH10MS. any suggestions

Id say near field monitors is your best bet...mixing on headphones is never going to be right

One thing Id say about this site is that they've never been wrong with me, when Ive followed advice its always translated well onto other systems such as mp3 players, hifi etc..

my system isnt great for monitoring but I use my previous mixes as a yardstick when listening to others

the truth is out there lol ;)

the melody is great. i agree on the high frequencies and a little more bass punch would fill it in nicely. also agree with kcearl about the snare sound.

thanks @ everyone...this forum is just great.

sorry for my bad start though

greetings from germany and the old man

i have removed the sub-bass frequencies and added a bit more punch to the kick...should be better now

Hey, I live in Germany and I'm an old man too....;)
Very nice piece, nicely structured and mixed. Sounded like film music to me. Yeah, don't mix with headphones, they tend to lie to you, near-fields are definitely better. Nice work!

Joey :):):):)

here is an alternate version of the song with an changed middle part...let me please know, which version do you like more.

for those who are already sick of the tune, the changed part starts at 1:40
