Is it worth it ?

Hello everyone. Found this listed on ebay today and was wondering if it is worth it or what the top dollar value would be. Thanks. BTW, I have been looking for a good 3440 for awhile and this one looks pretty decent. As for buying items on ebay, I have bought 2 tape decks ( an A-3340S ) and an (3340S) and both have worked flawlessly, with the exception of normal maintenence.
 
I personally wouldn't cough up the current $500 for a 4 track deck, unless it came with the manual, service manual, hub adapters, and an empty Teac/Tascam reel. I've found 8 trackers for cheaper locally that just needed minor stuff (belts and pinch rollers). If it's worth it to you and if you think you would get your moneys worth out of it, go for it. I'd love to have one, but it will have to wait until I get all of this other stuff in the room situated first.:p

If the 3440 is as well maintained as he says, then it might be a bad deal after all. I would just want more to come with it for that price. Good luck man and if you do get it, you know you've gotta post pics of it, right?:D

Thanks JJ. That's kinda what I thought. I would love to have an 8 track but as many tapes as I go through the cost would be out ragious for me :( Makes me sick: a little over a year ago, I bought my first tape deck for $660. A Teac A-3340S. Guess I'll keep searching CL for something local. L8r.
 
I agree, that's a lot of $$$ for a for track deck.I wonder if it will sell for that kind of money.
 
Wow, I just did a search on CL for about 300 miles around you, and there isn't anything available other than a handful of consumer stereo reel decks. Don't get frustrated though. Houston is the same way. Earlier this year I couldn't find anything around a few hours drive from here. Now, there is stuff popping up all of the time, mostly 8 trackers and mixers though.

I keep watching CL and can never find anything I have wanted so I go to ebay. I have spent a ton of $$$ for the stuff I have :(

BTW, how much are the 8 tracks going for where you are ? I would like to upgrade to 8 track. I know I said the price of tape was to expensive for me as much as I use but hey, that's why I started this never ending learning process of recording, mixing, and trying to master with of my ears dead :eek: :D

if your interested i'm in central part of nebraska, i bought an 80-8 that's got digital controls, and extra parts controls etc......I'm not in a hurry to sell it.
but if your interested let me know, i'm moving into a smaller house in a few months, i have room for it but i've also got some tascam 238s that i'll be using more instead. It'll be more than the four track as it's got spare parts and the controls etc.... but u can pm me if your interested. if not that is cool!:D

I would say on average, 8 trackers go between $300 to $500 in the greater Texas area. My 38 was the exception as it was very cheap. There is a 38 for sale in Austin for $300, just needs to have some finishing touches done to it such as alignment and checking that the channel cards are seated fully in place.
