Guitar and keyboards (well, piano and organ, synths are for weenies) too, but because of affirmative action white people are allowed to sometimes play those instruments :o
 
Which Black people ? The ones from Kenya ? The US ? Jamaica ? The Aboriginies ? The ones in England ? Cuba ? Holland ? Nigeria ? Russia ? Barbados ? Canada ? Brazil ? France ? The list nowadays goes on and on and on.......:
Actually, alot of 'Black people' have very manufactured, well practiced, culturally peer pressured rhythm. But human beings have natural riddim....

No, it's okay, I mean he's not incredible, but the songs they all put together are great, not all of them, but almost... I liked some of Hagar too, but not that much, no way he was David Lee for sure.

Greg, let me just start by saying that I'm new here and that's an awesome welcome !
Secondly, I've been reading through and enjoying what has been said and I respect the various views. I thought what you said about Phil Rudd, for example, was right on, though in fairness to Lars, since the early 60s, many 'great' recordings on almost all instruments {at some point} in many genres, even jazz, have actually been spliced together from separate takes to make one performance.
But I digress!!
As a Black person, the comment that Black people {as opposed to other peoples} have natural rhythm caught my eye. I replied as I did because I simply do not agree with it. It's an interesting comment, a subject that I've had numerous debates on with friends over a few decades now. Some agree, some don't.

EZ {by the way, loved some of your stuff in the analogue/digital debate}, so that I don't misunderstand you and make a comment based on misunderstanding, are you saying that only Black people possess natural rhythm ?

because you are relatively new in terms of post count, and because i am feeling especially giving being so close to christmas, i'm gonna give you a little insight to the exceptional mind of ez_willis: damn near everything i say should be taken with a grain of salt.

and to answer your question, i am a white dude that played bass on this and this. oh, and this. and i almost forgot about this one. :p

I just dug those songs man, not so much the 2nd {tho' it's good} but certainly 1,3 and 4. Not bad for unnatural rhythm !:)
 
Me, I'm mixed race.

I've had so-called black guys (I've yet to see a human who's skin is actually black) in my studio that couldn't find "one" if their lives depended on it.

I could care less what race a person is. If you saw your DNA results you'd probably be surprised how mixed race you are. We are all mixed race and we're all related. Angels and jerks come in all colors.

p.s. EZ, checked out the tunes and you've got a real good feel - in the pocket!

Not to be a jerk or anything - but there's actually no such thing as race. Skin color is entirely dependent on shades of the same kind of pigment in our skin. It has to do with genetics - we all have the same color skin - just different levels of melanin.

Also, regardless of skin color or lack thereof. . . that was some sweet bass playing, EZ.
 
Race has to do with a lot more than color, like features, height, etc. But....who cares? :)
 
You know you're a crap drummer when.........you spend all day nailing that highly complex 17/11 Afro-Indian prog jazz fusion chorus only for the band decide to make that section 4/4 accapella and hand you a triangle.
