Vintage???

Thanks for confirming that my definition of "vintage" is NOT the same as everyone else's. Even if it was, vintage still would not mean desireable.

I think that most of the time people think anything old means vintage...but an old bottle of Thunderbird was shitty wine in the first place...and it still wont be worth a shit.

Nothing to add, except that "vintage" should be a red flag in an online ad. The only meaning it has these days is "not factory fresh in the box."

craigslist is like pawnshops now. I never see any good deals. If they have access to the internet for craigslist, they can search ebay and get some stupid idea of what their esteban should be priced at.

I've gotten two very good deals on pedals on Craigslist, from individuals.

A Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble, virtually untouched, for $35.

A Fulltone OCD in excellent condition for $80.

Pedals are usually a good deal on Craigslist, as are used mics and other miscellaneous stuff. Guitars not so much but I see the occasional deal.

I have actually gotten a few killer deals at Music Go Round, believe it or not. I bought a couple used things from sam ash and got a good deal, too.

I am the price police on my local C'list

Ive had some great deals but Ive seen some terrible ones, I cant help pointing them out..

My favourite seller is the "bought for $350 plus taxes, selling for $300 like new.."

dude it aint new its used...period

I think "like new" is a pretty valid way of describing the condition of something, provided the description is accurate. I've seen guys selling guitars cleaner than most of what you'd find hanging "new" in, forget GC, even a good guitar store that takes care of its merchandise.

"Like new," however, when you're talking about something with a couple visible dings and a bit of fretwear is a different story.

not the point i was trying to make...I couldnt care if its 99% new its still used, you have no idea how anything is treated even if its in good physical shape, and it should be reflected in its price..

I think the rule of thumb for used sales in a shop is buy for 1/3 of retail and sell at 2/3s

I see the same stuff comin up day in day out on C'list..I think some miss the point or completely over value their stuff

nowhere in that ad did it claim to be vintage, but if it did it would totly be acceptable. anything made in the 70's is vintage, except for me.

the asking price was 700% of the new price...if it is a POS...it doesnt get to be vintage.

it didn't claim to be vintage you idiot. if you don't like the price don't buy it. i'd suggest that same advice to anyone else thinking about buying anything. ever.

Its a given that the seller thinks that it is worth 7 times more than new...its implied that he thinks it is "Vintage" even if he didnt use that word...all he has is an old peice of shit.

are you the CL price police or something? dude can charge whatever he wants without implying anything. it's freaking capitalism sude.

Does anyone troll Craigslist and see how loosely that term ('vintage') is used...Ill bet most of you can link us to an ad right now that will make us laugh our asses off.

As has been pointed out, not once is the term 'vintage' used. The Kramer is junk, but the Hohner could be really cool, and where you gonna get a Les Paul for $350? And it's $350 or best offer.
I trust HC reviews as far as I can poop them, but pretty much down the line every 'expert' review mentions with a pickup swap the Hohner was awesome. If I was in KC I'd offer something silly like $200 just to see what would happen next. Who cares if JC Penny sold them for $60 back in the day? They sold '59 Les Pauls for $395 plus $47.50 for a case back in 1959. You're stucking fupid if you think you'll see one on Craigslist for that price today. But hey, if you have one you bought new, I'll gladly give you every penny you paid to take it off your hands. :p

yeah I do...its just a bugbear...knocking $50 of something used compared to new is a bit unrealistic....there's about four or five local items coming up in a cycle for weeks now..dudes lower your prices, simple really :)

Hohner isnt Gibson by a longshot...even with the PU swap...you will want to get rid of the Plywood body...besides you see cheap LP copies all the time on CL for arround $50...if that is what you want.
