new song

this is not :)

its a silly wee song about mundane life called... watching "stars"...bit too mundane at times if you ask me lol

mispronounced a couple of words..not used to English, and messed up a couple of other parts...but dunno if can be arsed retracking the vocals just now

the bass was hard..kept swamping everything, try sidechaining it but think I managed it with the EQ..

maybe you thupa guys can let me know if its sounding all right in the first mix??

anyhoo thank you for reading this, opening the post, listening to the song and for any other comments...anything negative and you are going on ignore! :D

I'm the first sucker you fooled......:D
I was expecting guitars from Hell and what do I get??
A very intricate electronic tune that's what. This has a mix of Ultravox and Depeche Mode feel in it and your voice reminded me of Midge Ure somehow. Very witty lyrics and nice effects. It's great that you're keeping a very British 80's style. Mix is crystal clear and you get the full 10 from me.
So, when do the heavy guitars come in...??

seriously it sounded OK?

I cant play the fucking guitar dude...five notes on the electric and three chords on my twelve string were about all I could push out on this...doesnt that count as metal? :D

Oh yeah...the strings definitely count as metal!
Yes it does sound OK, it brought memories of a certain period of my life where I was listening to electronic music. A fun sinful time it was......:D

Id love to hear a joeym electronic track...c'mon ;)

Your pronunciation sounds fine. (Of course, half the heavy metal I listen to is by German bands, so I may just be used to weird pronunciation.)

The breakdown of audio clips from E! was a little silly.

The drum machine sounded good, but I would have liked a little more variety from it.

The various spacey synths were cool.

As far as the mix goes, the vocal could probably come down a little bit; might not have to, but I think it could help a little.

the clips are genius :)

yeah the whole thing's a bit silly in truth

fought with the vocal level a while, probably needs a re-working, I think the guitar is a bit low as well..the drums are a little monotonous but so is the bass...I kinda write acoustic stuff the same way I write electronic stuff..repetitive

ta for listening!

sounds good kc. No complaints. the clips are genious. I love that stuff.

I was able to make out all the words.

charz dude...the mix sounds a lot better to me this morning...maybe I was just fatigued yesterday

forgot to say while I was buying booze in Shanes pub he was reading poetry in the corner.....he is one ugly fucker ;)

"you must spread....."

even so thats fuckign sweet. I'll take your word for it. I have alot of respect for that guy. dont make me go into my reasoning why.

Wow.

Id love to get a good shitty on with him and jam. Pretty much my lifes goal. HAHA

never got them myself but that kinda celt stuff is big here in canuckstan...still he was a bit of a legend, and great teeth :)

I liked it right away - I'm a fan of 80's music in general. This is (to me) very 80's. Lots of reverb and avant garde melodies and vocals. The TV clips are perfect - bit of diversion from the music for a minute or so. Great stuff...

Shame that the music machine completely abandons anything that's passe - no diversity IMHO.

Cool song.

I'd like to hear you voice more full. Sounds like you've got all the low end cut down, very mid-rangey and sibilant. you've certainly have the right voice for this genre. It's a good fit.

The tv clips don't bother me at all. I was kind of hoping to hear a change in melody or tone in the vocals after the tv clips. you know, kind of tired of the mundane, going to the bar sort of thing... idk.

Good job.

thanks very much man...I feel I can concentrate on the songs now that this place has helped me gain the confidence and skills to mix half decently...it sure helps when you can put your stuff out knowing that its not mixed like a pile of shite...well not all the time ;)

thanks Chili...the vocals are pretty hard for me..Im in an untreated room (one bedroom city centre apartment) using an e835 as the place is too noisy for my condenser..tends to make most of my stuff a bit sibilant as my rather large gob's all over it ;)

Im sure I could track them better but Im not sure its worth the effort..and Im a lazy bastard too lol

I will try tweaking the EQ..I cut most of the lows out of everything to try and tame the bass

thanks for the comments mate...mucho appreciated

The vocals sound pretty midrangey. Other than that, it sounds okay. I think the TV parts are a little too out front and the song/melody is a little too repetitive. Not bad though for fake metal. :D

kc, i really like your style dude. this is a really cool track.. it has a weird, unique and retro-ish kind of vibe to it. reminds me of donnie darko (and sam darko) and the music used in those movies. you're probably my favorite artist from the forum along with lee rosario.

like the way everything was mixed, it adds to the vibe. the way the vocals sound, the effects, etc etc ... it all contributes to make the song what it is. if it was up to me i wouldn't change a thing, it's amazing how it is.

great song man.
