Found out today MF is closing their showroom in Kansas City at the end of the month along with their telephone order center. They will be strictly online sales and warehousing for the Guitar Center chain.
Not exactly what I consider to be good customer service--but then that appears to be a major complaint about them from the accounts I've read.

They really only had a bunch of broken shit in there anyway...mostly Craigslist sellers and Ebay guys in the morning pushing each other like it was black friday every morning taking the all the good crap....since it evolved to that...GOOD RIDDANCE...

Not that this news would effect me, but...I do agree that MF is slack on CS issues.

Did anyone know that Music123.com is a sister company?

They also bought out Mars Music stores and other individual dealers like Thoroughbred Music in Tampa, Florida.

They are the biggest music dealer in the world (I think)

Hip Hip Horray! :p

Doodle Doodle Dee...Wubba Wubba Wubba !

I've always had good experiences ordering from MF.

Bummer

That is too bad. I just got a great deal on a RIC 360-12. I was looking and planning to buy it online but I called with questions. It turned out I could save 15% if I would just say "FAB" It was a beatles promo>

Like so many things, it really depends who you happen to get on the phone. I've spoken with a couple guys there who've been pretty knowledgeable and helpful, and a couple where it was clear they were just logging hours until their next paycheck.

I've bought maybe 20,000 worth of stuff from M.F. and never had any problems. I had one piece get damaged in shipping (which can happen to anyone) and they promptly took care of it.

I just got off the phone with my rep who said that the show room is closing but that was the only thing changing. The call center would continue as always.

Yeah...me too.
I've purchased thousands of $$$ worth from MF...and not had any real problems.
The couple of times I had minor issues...they took it back, full refund, no questions asked...or replaced it.

I mean...to me, that's minor and I don't get upset about it.
I think there's a lot of young guys who tend to blow things out of proportion and get all worked up about stuff being broken or not working out of the box.
I could see if MF screwed you over...but they always seem to come through one way or another.

I mean...45 days!!!!
That's a LONG time to allow people full refunds/returns/exchnages...and I know some people take advantage of that liberal policy, and will buy gear for a session and then return it for a refund.... :( ...which is not a good way to do biz.
I think that's why they have so many "unboxed" items available all the time.....

For what it's worth, I always buy from Sweetwater. In three years I've never had a single issue and it's free FedEx shipping on everything. Call me silly, but I like to be able to call up the same person on the phone (they're in Indiana) and ask their opinions and b.s. a little about gear.

I've spent literally thousands with MF, and the only fuck up I had, they more than made up for it. No complaints from me. MF rocks.

I wonder if we can still go across town and make purchases at the front desk?

I've heard nothing but good about Sweetwater and there's a sales rep that calls me a few times a year. He must make notes 'cause he always remembers shit about me and what I do and like. That impresses me as pretty damned professional.
I'll have to buy something from them someday.

Like they have everything on computer and they are calling you trying to sell something...If that were happening to me Id be a bit pissed off.

Used to work for MF for 3 years. Never liked how they ran things. LEft after awhile. Still ahve lots of friends that work there, Or worked there. They own a lot of music stores. I thought they would have shut the other ones down first though. Oh well, I buy most of my stuff online and usually from other people I want to suport, Zenproaudio.com and mercenary.com. Sometimes GC cause they have a store 10 minutes away.

I think that I made my first MF catalog purchase in 1989. I've been ordering from them for 20 years. Other than a few backordered items that I ended up cancelling, I never had a problem with their service.

I live in Kansas City now, and I've been to that showroom a few times. I was never all that impressed with it because it was truly like a giant pawn shop. There was a big "buyer beware" feeling when I walked in the door. Maybe that's because on my first trip into that showroom, right next to the front door was a whole rack of Epiphone semi-hollow guitars, every single one of them had the neck cracked or broken at the exact same spot right at the zero fret. Like 6 identical guitars with identical fractures, it was nuts.

Every guitar I picked up I had to inspect with the skeptical "what's wrong with this one?...oh, there it is..." kind of mentality.

But not everything there is used/refurbished/damaged. They also use that place as a shipping warehouse. I was able to walk in the door one day and buy a pair of pencil condensors that I'd seen in the catalog. The warehouse's location was particularly convenient for making web orders. Due to its proximity to my house, I basically got overnight shipping on anything I ordered from them.

I wonder if they'll keep the warehouse and just cut the jobs and space of the showroom floor?
