Up till now the songs I wrote were pop/rock stuff. For some reason I thought hip hop would be good for this one.

It's a little bit sad you don't understand any of it, but my foremost concern is about the mix. It's my first try at mixing so don't be too hard. The number one problem was/is to find the "correct" amount of db for each instrument. I think the mixing on this song for me is finished for now, because after two weeks of composing and arranging I've lost the connection to the song. And by lost I mean I'm sick of hearing it :p Will give it a rest and wait for feedback.

Thanks for listening in advance, I know it takes a lot of energy to critique other people's work. (Oh yeah and I know the vocal track sounds like yuk, I just record with mic in hand in front of computer :o) (and you don't want to see my "monitor speakers")

If the mp3 doesn't work for some reason, here's an OGG version of the same song

I can't open the file on my 'puter...says 'codec not supported'. 'Properties' says it's an mp3...so it should open.
??????

Must be Euro mp3.

dunno about hip hop as that's not what that sounded like to me...just good old electronica :)

i think its definitely got something going for it..I like the mix, but im on headphones so maybe someone else will chirp in regarding any problems with levels

as for the tracks composition I love it...some might say its a bit sparse/repetitive but I think it really works...I think the drums, especially the snare, could have been a little nastier..the pannings cool as well

Being an old fan of einsturzende neubauten I like german vocals on songs even if I don't know the meaning..have you a link to any more of your tunes?

"you are my little...?"

my Deutsch is a bit rusty ;)

Hey, thanks for listening! The title of the song and the chorus is "Du bist meine kleine Gummizelle", which means "You are my little padded cell". Glad that you like it. I hear you on the snare. More aggressive definitely wouldn't hurt.

As to more tunes, I usually publish them on my website http://michaelmaurer.net. Here's another track I made two weeks ago, but it's a different style. I would say it's a polkaish chanson/folk-type-song. It's title translates to "We are taking a walk in autumn". I think it was the first time I used Reason to create & arrange song. Disregard the mixing, because I didn't really take care of it and just used a bunch of presets.

@jeffmaher
I encoded it at a variable bitrate using LAME via Wavelab. I'll encode it in OGG and upload it in a minute or two (and include the link in my OP).

Na, ja...verstehen tu ich die Texte schon....;)
Definitely not hip-hop....I would have turned it right off if it was :D
I agree with KC, this is more Kraftwerk than anything else. Pretty good electronic stuff. Do you have some deesser on the voice? The "z" in Gummizelle sounds very muffled and so do the "s"s in the vocal line. Not bad though.

Joey :):):):)

I used about five different effects on the voice, first of all a deesser, yes. It's not that I'm crazy about effects, it's just that the audio recording didn't sound very good. Am currently working on creating some kind of cheapo vocal booth.

Danke für's Anhören ;)
