Hi Guys....
I anticipate having some time this winter to splurge on myself.... and here is something that I have wanted to do forever, so please help me out.

Lets say I have instrumental songs on CD and some instrumental midi files. I want to be able to play them on the computer (or something else) and use a mike to mix my vocals with the instrumental and create a recordable media on the computer....
Then I want to record it to a CD and play it in my car.... sounds simple ?
Please help me out guys....

Hello,

You will need an audio interface for this. 2 channel is enough for your application.
I have this one and like it a lot

Emu Tracker Pre USB 2.0 Audio Interface It has all the features to make a job on a good level. It also comes wit an extencieve software bundle. Basically you will not need any ting else but the microphone. A good solution for a beginner could be

Audio Technica AT2020 Studio Microphone

You will also need a stand for the micropone and a pop filter.

That's it!

Thanks for your quick reply....
Can I have something playing in the computer be a part of the recording ? like a mp3 instrumental music on the PC playing as I'm singing in the mike.

Also if I'm using an external source, like a CD player or something, how will I be able to listen to the audio if its going into the Emu tracker ?

sorry for the layman questions, and thanks for your help.

I'm not familiar with the EMU, but audio interfaces usually have a headphone jack. You'll need headphones with good isolation. I like these:

I'm not a big fan of the AT2020 recommended above. For cheap, I like this:

Condensers can be a pain in a noisy room. The hard part is finding a quiet spot as far away from the computer as you can get. If that's not possible, consider a dynamic mic, such as:

There are lots of USB interfaces. Consider:

Best of luck. Whatever software you used for the audio and MIDI files should recognize the Fast Track interface.-Richie
