Hey everyone,

If this is in the wrong section sorry please move it.

I was planning to make a home studio with student budget. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with your experiences.

The studio will only be used for recording vocals and making beats. I don't want to use any live instruments.

I have a laptop dell vostro 1500 which runs windows XP. I prefer not to buy a new computer if possible.

This is what I think I need please add any other thing you think I need and give me a model or brand to buy which you think will best suit me(I already have Nuendo and Flstudio):

Audio interface --> m-audio fast track pro?
Condenser mic --> Behringer b1 ?
Mic stand
Pop filter
Keyboard --> this is the main part I'm struggling with. I don't know which type of keyboard I need. I will use it to make beats. I want something to be easy to use and compatible with FL so I can import instruments into it.

Thanks in advance,

Moin :)

First off I will tell you something that you should remember when coming to this site. You will get NO help here if you state that your on a student budget and then say you already have nuendo. I think its safe to say that you didnt buy that $2000 program if your intentions were to just make beats and record vocals. Mostly everyone here will agree with me.

I bought my laptop second hand and nuendo was already installed on it :). Can any one please help me? at least with the keyboard part. There are too many brands out there.

dude cmon. You could have helped me instead of arguing about ethics.

How much money u got bro... or u can talk to me on AIM playable4free

I'll argue with you about ethics. We don't support piracy at this site!!!

Are you kidding me??? Don't come here looking for help on your stolen warez!!!

He didnt ask how to use the software... He asked for home recording advice on what to buy for what he already has... He didnt say.. How do I get nuendo for free! We give the answers to what he asked... On this site

Anyways aside from them worrying about piracy which is your business anyways bro..... If you said it came on the computer... Then maybe it did... Either way I refuse to let piracy worries stifle someones creativity. If you can't afford software and you could be the next great in the future. Big deal.

I dont have yahoo or skype and i only got on aim to talk to u but either way 400 bucks.

Your computer you have now is fine! So you just saved money there.

Mic stand $30
m-audio fast track pro $150
And Im assuming hip hop vocals... So before the b1 Id get the Shure SM57 which is the same price. so $100
Good Pop Filter with flexible neck (Worth It) $20

The keyboard I will recommend is the Yamaha MM6... It has the MOTIF engine in it and TONS of instruments and its only about $600 and is compatible with FL

Good luck man.

You make it sound like stealing software is okay. That's bullshit, Hype, and you know it. If he had a legit copy of Nuendo, he would have said he had a dongle and all would have been okay. But he chose to go with the "It came on the laptop I bought" line. Gimme a break. Nobody is going to sell a used laptop with a $1700 program on it.

If we start looking the other way when software pirates come here for advice on their stolen warez, then before long we're going to have all the hacks here. The integrity of this place will go to shit and the great experience that you and I enjoy now will be gone. No way am I going to let that happen. As it is now, newbies to the art of recording can come here and get great advice on how to set up a home studio and critiques from some very knowledgeable and talented people. Why lose that to a bunch software whores??

And when people steal software, that shows up in the price honest people have to pay. The individuals and companies who write this stuff deserve to be compensated for it. Just like you for whatever work you do. You know the line, you wouldn't want somebody ripping off your stuff...

Don't take the side of the thieves and if you've got stolen software then find some integrity and pay for it.

Okay your right when you put it like that. So when I look at it from your perspective I see why you got so angry.

I'm just figuring as a college student he can't afford stuff like that... and maybe it's possible that the person who had it before him HACKED it and thats why they sold it for the price he paid.

I don't want a bunch of those people on here either. But the way he presented himself was more towards the "Help me figure out what else I need" nothing even had to do with Nuendo or I woulda sided with you from the get go assuming Yes... he pirated it or the person before did so he was using pirated software either way.

But I understand your side. Your the mod do whatever u feel is right.

Thanks Hype. I didn't mean to come off sounding that angry!! :o Sometimes the written word is lacking, good thing we've got music.

Yeah, I know his original question, but when confronted with the pirated software thing, he should have just shut his mouth and he didn't.

peace,

I agree

I agree with you Chili- good job looking out. the guy should have just asked the question and left the nuendo out of the mix. you know the thing about piracy is that most copies are really buggy anyway- no matter what program it is- recording or etc. I just always feel good about supporting the folks who put their time and effort into making a stellar product.

Audio Interface - fast track is a bit out of date now. and it is not a cheap one tacking into account you are on a low budget.

My sugestion would be

Emu Tracker Pre USB 2.0 Audio Interface 140$. Plus a range of bundled software (No Piracy issues any more ;) )

Microphone

Audio Technica AT2020 Studio Microphone Very good price/performance ratio for this one. 125$ with stand and cable.

Pop Filter
RaXXess Stoppit Pop Filter with Goose Neck 25$

Ok now you have around 110$ for keyboards

My suggestion would be

Behringer UMX49 49-Key MIDI Controller 130$

49 Velocity sensitive keys is quite enouth for drum or bass lines or some synt pads.

Well 420$ spent and you are ready to go.

Thanks SG. I appreciate the support!!
