forget DAWs, buy an iphone

i think id mainly using for constructing drum patterns etc...couldnt really see it being used for anything more serious

I actually have used the "Voice Memos" recording app to capture my kiddos playing banjo and singing in the back seat of my truck...You know, like true Texans, lol.
Maybe you could get it added to Jeff Foxworthy's dictionary. You might be a redneck if your iphone is your recording studio.:D

A couple of friends have shared their iPhone recordings. Not bad for noodling. No bottom end at all.
Perhaps not for rock or rap as most seem to do on this board, but for glitchy/IDM stuff I can see it working rather well if not for everything, but certainly as an extra instrument/sound source.

You know those plastic music-making kids toys they roll out every Christmas season....
....I think those guys must have used at least a few in making that muzak. ;)

Just a lot of bleeps and boings.

I got a wind chime that makes better random music! :D

You may scoff at them, but there is a strong community of circuit benders that take these toys, add MIDI capabilities, and turn them into strange noise machines. Speak'n'Spell being one of the most popular toys for this kind of stuff ;)

I could. I think I am starting to get nudged more and more towards the iPhone :) The first nudge was the fact that I can load Pandora on it so I don't have to listen to some lame radio station while driving :D

The shine is starting to come off the Apple a bit when it comes to the iPhone as a development platform.

It also doesn't help that AppleJobs is keeping that proprietary Apple-only philosophy by offering a development platform for the iPhone that only works on Apple PCs. I was actually considering writing some audio-related apps for the iPhone, but discovered that I'd automatically start several hundred dollars in the hole jut by a) signing up to become an iPod developer, which is not free, and 2) having to buy an Apple netbook at the very least, just to be able to write an app.

Yes, having to pay Apple to be a developer has always been a major thorn, even for the Mac developers. However, if I wasn't getting free laptops from work, I'd most likely purchase myself a Mac notebook. The attention to detail (even to little things such as the power cord) is staggering.

if i was in the market for a gadget i would consider one...but i have an unbricked psp that covers me for most things..though a bit of sequencing on the go would be cool :)

That'd be fine if I had use for another computer outside of developing iPhone apps. But I already have two desktops and a laptop - and that's not counting the *eight* retired obsolete computers I have collecting dust in my basement :(. I'll be damned if I'm buying another notebook just to develop apps that will probably never see a profit anyway. I'm hoping to make the next computer I buy the last one ever. When that goes obsolete, I'm done with computers.

after thinking about my psp i just found a sequencer online for it as well as a moog soft synth..haha brilliant :)

Sure, I make a living BECAUSE of computers, but when I stop and think about how dependent everything has become on them, I get shivers down my spine :o
I have made most of my pro living in the IT industry as well...don't even get me started. If we weren't half a continent away, I'd say let's go out for a beer and swap horror stories :eek::o. Rule #1: If it works, it's obsolete.

Who needs 'em. Hell, if I didn't have a sick mother who needs to be in touch with me 24/7, I wouldn't even carry a cell phone with me. When she passes, the cell phone stays home.

Haha, Moog synth on PSP... blah. I have played real Moog synths. Although I hate the fact that their voice architecture is setup with first note priority (i.e. you will not hear the second note you hear until you release the first key, which is counter to most other mono synths I've played), there is nothing that sounds like a real Moog, not a hardware clone, not a software clone... and this is not a VA vs Analog vs Hardware vs Software debate, and I hope this doesn't turn into one of those hackneyed threads because of this statement.

They can copy the architecture all they want.

So, yeah, I love my Kurzweil K2600XS and I don't think I can ever live w/o Reaktor, but once I have the money to spend on synths, the two things on my list are a Moog Voyager and a Cwejman modular.

I am the type that takes an instrument for what it is and I don't like to pretend as to what they are or what they WANT to be. Even in the case of the clones. Both the Arturia Minimoog V and the GMedia MiniMonsta are good synths that while copying the Minimoog, they #1 don't sound like the real thing, #2 add their own little twists (specially in the case of the MiniMonsta) that make them worthwile synths in their own right. However, I will never delude myself into thinking I am actually playing a Moog while playing these software clones.

to tell the truth I like anything that makes the sound I want...couldnt care less if its samples, real, analog...I dont use loops but I would if it sounded right...just dont have time to go through them all

had a wee shot with the sequencer last night...loaded up a bunch of battery samples and got a few beats out...it has a piano roll, and you can screw about with the wave shapes and use basic effects like delay etc... so it'll maybe help make those plane journeys fly by..:)

btw I highly recommend PSPs...mines has GPS, can store games, go online, watch movies, and listen to music as well as homebrew applications...very underrated gadget

Completely with you on that one.

I am not a purist nut. Except when it comes to sports cars with automatic transmissions :D To this day I refuse to purchase cars with auto trannies.

I plan on doing something like that with a Dance Dance Revolution pad once I get around to purchasing it. :D (of course, that'll just be a control surface for my software synths, so maybe it doesn't count.)
