heatmiser

mr. green christmas
Hey,

I spent a fair amount of time messing around with drum tracks and wound up with a song of sorts. Struggled for days to think of something to sing about, so I decided to just sing about making this song. Came out pretty funny I think...uh, I hope.

Any thoughts, ideas, complaints, pointers?...anything at all is cool, really. Thanks,
Peter

I think it's a winner! It's very funny and very musical as well-and you have some VERY serious bottom end with the rhythm section. Along with the rapped lyrics you kept if interesting all throughout!
Nice one Heatmiser!:D

Thanks Tony. I'm really glad it came through from a humor standpoint and I'm happy you liked it.

It seemed like I hadn't heard any tunes from you in a long time so it was good to have a chance to check out your latest...nice job :).

Have you posted this before? It sounds familiar.

Anyway, sounds awesome. Very good. :D

Thank you Greg (almost typed Gerg :o). No, this is new. I just finished it last night...but, I did do a tune this past winter that kind of made fun of this place (the clinic). It also had repetetive heavy riffs and lots of rapping about mixing and stuff, so that may be what you're thinking of. Most of my songs only have 2 or 3 parts...maybe I'm running out of parts !?:D

Yeah I think that's what it was. :D

Thank you kcearl! This is certainly reminiscent of something from like the early '90's maybe...(love the b-boys) I dunno :).

Hi..

I thought the track was awesome! Very entertaining...you sound confident, and thats heaps when you wanna sound legit. Keep it up! bob

Thanks Go-Fish!:) Absolutely zero confidence here, but I agree that sounding that way probably helps...especially for this sort of thing...thanks again.

Pretty good. No complaints here.

The drum tone is cool.

Thanks Steve :).

What a cool song. Totally different from anything I've heard you do before. All sounds good. Like the ending, but not that it ended.

Less gain, more chill. Somehow I can relate to that!!!

Damn, that's pretty good for a just muckin' around song!
Really well recorded, nice panning all the way, everything sits nicely....and that snarling bass...rrrrrrrrrrrr.....love it! Very original, well done, Heat!

Joey :):):):)

Godzilla the bass!
This is cool.
It's the sort of rap I can handle!
Good riff - just plain GOOD!

Ha! Thanks Chili. Every now and then I wander into this weird psuedo rap territory...it is very therapeutic not to have to worry so much about pitch and melody and whatnot.

Very sweet tune. I think this calls for a few points.

Thanks dodge!

Thank you joey. I spent some time just fiddling with the drums and adding and removing elements, but the lyrics and vocals were definitely, uh mucked :). I'm really glad the mix sounds ok...I just never really know, y'know?

Thanks for checking it out ray :). Even though the music was laid down before I had any idea what the lyrics would be, I now think some of the instrumental breaks actually sound kind of like they could be part of a godzilla soundtrack. I love me some good monster movies.

ha!! cool song! it's like Beck meets Cypress Hill. good words.

it sounds good, maybe I wanted the mix to hit me a little harder and crisper when it kicked in but that's just a nit.

on a side note, I used to love those XLII S cassettes, I always saved the special songs and mixes for those because they weren't always easy to find, the XLII's were easy but I wasn't happy unless it had the S at the end.

I wasn't loving the drum sound while it was on its own, but once the song got underway, it sounded perfectly fine.

Nice work, P ... different fer sure.

:D

Thanks man :). Yeah, I was definitely going for some contrast at the beginning and wanted it to be hard-hitting. I think I achieved that comparing the intro to the beginning of the actual tune, but relative to everything else out there, it falls a little short sonically. I think I'm getting closer to that sound though...

The old "s" tapes were my fav. They were heavier duty and just looked better!...all for just a few extra dimes :).

Thank you K :). Yeah, at the very beginning, you're hearing the drum machine being played through monitors and recorded with a mic (with distortion and other fx). I spent a lot of time getting it to sound that crappy :p! I guess I was going for contrast between really lo-fi and a moderately full sound. When the song kicks in, I drop those mic'd tracks and you're hearing just the drum machine which is fuller and cleaner. I then revisit the lo-fi drums at the breaks, again going for some kind of (gimmicky?) sonic contrast...

That's hilarious but really good at the same time. It makes the hard work we put into this a little less serious... Cheap ass bass no fret buzz.... lol full of lots of great lyrics. Kids in the background - I know that...

The mix is cool too - although the vocals are the focus, the fuzzzies and everything else are mixed good for me....

This needs to be heard!!!!

:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Ok, this one seems a bit slow for me and feels predictable, at the end you mix it up with a few more voices which I think you should have throught the track. Seing as how you have your finger on the keyboard perhaps you could puch in some more effects through it as well.

Dirty bass or guitar is good and sets the tone but does not go too far out of melodic bounds. What would be different and nice maybe would be a scratched record in the background, you know like at the end of an lp when the needle is finishing before liftoff and there are some scratches on the record? The track already sounds old school you may as well emphasise it. Just an idea.

Cheers

Peter
