Queepy,

Always love your songs. This one needs some volume automation on the vocals. When the synths get loud your voice becomes buried and inaudible. It's fine during the softer parts, just needs to come up in places.

I think you are playing different chords from the original. I would start there.

:)

Thanks a lot guitar zero, yeah, I got a little carried away with the synths :p...did a little more work on it today and will post a second mix at the top of the thread for comparisons sake....thanks for the feedback...appreciate it!

Ha! Yeah..I'm sure I am :p..When I do covers of songs I love, I try and capture the feel of the original, but my lack of talent, skill, and attention span prevents me from doing perfect note for note copies...plus it's just not as much fun for me....For this one, I didn't actually sit down with the original and analyze the progressions...but rather downloaded the lyrics with the chords ( there were several versions to choose from),that fit my croaking the best.... and then tried to come up with something interesting....for me anyways.....Thanks for the listen!

Cool cover. I like the first mix better with all the synths going on, but definitely gotta get them under control with levels and putting them in their place. Also need some de-essing on the vocal.
peace.

dodgeaspen I like your version, I think it's cool. I love the Stones.

Thanks , I'm a big fan of Stones up to "Some Girls" album...going thru a stones phase now were Iv'e been listening to alot of there albums...great stuff...thanks for the listen, glad ya like it!

Ya liked the synth heavy version eh? I think if I could get the dynamics under control , as you mentioned , it could sound cool....I will be fixing that ssss'y vocal on my next session working on this...thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

Monkey Allen Nice work, love the classics. Sounds very live.

Coool, I like when a band sounds "real" and live....even when it's a "one man band" like this was...thanks for checking it!

Great version, Queep!
I love the roomy feel of it. If I had to nit-pick I would say the drums sound a bit mechanical, but they fit in pretty well. Great singing too. Mix sounds great to me and your performance is tops as usual.

Joey :):):):)

Thanks Joey...appreciate it..sometimes I tend to go a little crazy on the fills/busy drummer thing with my loops , so I have been trying to chill it down a bit...but I think I am going to spice it up a little wheni work on this again....Thanks for listening... I look forward to downloading your "Age Of Decay " album you mentioned in your thread...your stuff always rocks!!

I listened to Mix 2 1st - as thet'd be the one you were currently happy with.
the rock up if great.
I actually like the synthie 1st mix better - in fact I'd pull the guitars back a little bit (LITTLE) - replace the rhythm guitar with a synth a la Gary Numan & pump the vox up as needed.
I like this interpretation!

Hey Ray...I like your idea about pulling the guitars back and featuring the synth more...A cross between Gary Numan and Gary Wright would be interesting :D...the thing is,I just can't seem to let go of my guitar ...they are like my security blanket I guess :p....I did try a new mix this morning with the thought of a sound between my previous 2 attempts.....

Just wanted to drop a note to say I liked your cover. I do agree that your vocals are getting lost a bit here and there. I think that's the toughest part of mixing, keeping all the volumes controlled, even when there are spikes in certain instruments. It's taken me several years to get a handle on that.

I know what you mean about it not being as much "fun" to emulate a song perfectly. I just did a 24-song cover album, and usually try my best to capture everything exactly.....but boy, once I'm done with a project like that, I'm whipped, and usually have to take a break from playing! The up-side is that now I feel more energized to start doing original music again.

Anyway, good job, and I'll be sure to listen to your other stuff.
