Amazed (cover of an Offspring tune)

I started working on this over a year ago, and got back on it yesterday. Well I decided to deleted all the tracks done last year and started over. The music is pretty much done, unless you think it needs help. The bass may need backed off a the low end a little. Let me know what you think about the bass. Go ahead and crack on my vocals !!!!! That Dexter can get up there in range and I thaught I was gonna explode !!!!! I need a damn auto tune thingymajig. So, the vocals are roughed in and will be tweaked once I get a thingymajig. Hmmm. Listening with other equipment and the Bass needs fixed. HPF or multi band eq will fix it.
 
The bass isn't that bad. It could be backed off a little. The vocals need to come up alot I think. The rhytym guitars are a little tingy too. Good stuff though, I never hear Offspring covers.

Vocals were done pretty quick and need alot of help. :) As far as guitars go. I could back off the gain some, but that tune had alot of distortion on the guitars. I always record a clean track too of all the guitar takes, so if I need to reamp I can. I'll listen again tomorrow to it (with fresh ears) and see how the Bass is and if the guitars are to distorted. But yea the vocals need alot of help :) Thanks for the listen
 
I thought it sounded good..... The thing I noticed was that the vocals were behind the music.... I understand most folks really listen to the lyrics, and have been taught that they should be out front, and the instruments blend around them.... This mix is backwards, with the instruments out front, and the vocals in the background.... But I'm stoned, so what do I know man...
 
Will definately redo the vocals. My son is coming home from the Navy tomorrow and his old band buddies are coming down. Maybe I can get one of them to sing it.
 
I think the bass could use some compression and a drop in level. It's just a little loud and some notes jump out.

The drum sound and playing has improved a lot for you. Good job there. Guitars sound good to me. Vocals...meh....but the Offspring guy can't sing either. :D

Bass sounds okay in the low end to me, it's just a little loud that's all. I like the way it sounds though. Voice needs to come up a little bit. Guitars sound nice and punky to me, the way they should be. Drums sound very good. Just some tweaking and it's done.

Hi, Bush!

I like the bass guitar tone;

one thing that´s not 100% (IMO):
the "stereo perceived image" (principally drums) is too narrow (excluded guitars,which are ok).
Drums sounds really centered (hihat is the most), what let´s the impression of "low level vox", perhaps.

Like the bass. Might back the guitars off a little and bring up the vocal.

I took my time with the drums. I had to move some hits (well alot) to get them right, but it was worth the effort. And though I hate them, I utilized a click to help with keeping stuff tighter. I agree, more compression is needed and a drop in level for the bass guitar. Thanks for the listen and input.

Thanks Joey. I hope to fix it up in a day or so. The vocals will be redone :)

I actually did narrow up the drums on this one. Sometimes I pan the tom and overheads a little too wide. But I do think I need to pan the toms and overheads a little more. I think I was a little narrow minded :) . Also this time I had a hi-hat mic too. I usually rely on the overheads, but decided to try one. I panned the hi-hats a little off center, but the overheads may be effecting it too. But then again if you listen to some older recordings, the drum panning is all over the place. Alot of the Doors stuff has the whole kit to one side. But I agree with the panning, I do like a wider sound.

Its kind of annoying, like an alarm clock. :) For some reason it just drives me mad. Like "Chinese Water Torture". I guess after a while I would get use to it. A friend of mine is in a national act and he said it took them a while to get use to it. But their record producer insisted and the outcome was a tighter record. Their drummer actually uses a click during their live shows now. I guess its common ? But if it makes things better, I'll try to get use to it. I do have a few drum loops I use to jam with and thats not so bad.

Im realizing that with how much tighter I played. But I did do some manual editing of the hits. But the extra time and effort was worth it. Thanks Greg_L

It's no coincidence that you used a click and this is some of your better drumming. Drummers that shun clicks altogether are dumb or they suck or both. I do everything to a click. Time/tempo changes can be easily mapped out beforehand. I started out recording to the click, so it's become second nature. And even now, althouhg I'm not very technically skilled, when I play out live you can set a watch to my meter. :D
 
Fixed the Bass guitar and fixed the vocals, somewhat :)
