Hey y'all,

I'm not a newbie to recording, but I certainly am when it comes to computer recording. I've used analog or standalone hard disk recorders until now.

So here's my problem (or one of my problems anyway) :)

The audio coming from the right output of my audio interface seems to be slightly louder than that coming from the left.

The interface is a Behringer U-Control UCA202 USB device. It's this one:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-UCONTROL-UCA202-USBAudio-Interface?sku=702540

I know it's cheap and bottom of the barrell, but since I was just starting and only needed to record one or two tracks at a time, I thought it would suit my needs for the time being.

I had no problem with the install on my system: Dell 2.7GH dual core, 3GB RAM. I plugged it in and was able to get audio through it without any problem.

The volume difference between the outputs is subtle; I actaully didn't notice it until I was trying to diagnose another problem, which I'll mention in a bit.

I've taken everything I can out of the equation, and I'm still getting the problem. I ran straight from the left and right outputs of the Behri to a channel pair on a mixer, panned both channels center, and then A/B'ed the signals, listening both through headphones and on the mixer and through my monitors. I tried the same thing through various channel pairs on the first mixer and then again on a different mixer. For all of these options, I tried numerous cables.

The reason I even noticed this in the first place (like I said, it is very subtle), was due to another problem. I'm running Tracktion 3, and I just noticed that, whenever Tracktion is running, I'm getting a constant "beep-beep-beep-beep-beep...." noise that won't stop until I close the program. Once I stop it, it goes away. It's not incredibly loud, but when you turn up to a moderate or loud volume it's clearly audible and clearly something that should not be there.

I tried switching drivers in Tracktion from ASIO to Direct Sound, and I'm still getting the noise.

Any clues on either of these?

Thanks!

The constant beeps may mean that you have a demo program or plug-in that's gone past it's demo date.
Many of them will beep until you pay for them or register them.
You'll have to take all your VSTs out of the plugin folder and add them back until you get the beeps again, then you'll have found the culprit....

Not much you can do about the bad pan IF you can trace it back to the interface (except to get something better... 'buy cheap, buy twice' gets expensive....)

Hmmm ... that might be it regarding the beeps. I didn't think I had any plugs that were running in demo mode, but I'll certainly try it.

Thanks!

Well, the plugin thing didn't work. I removed all the plug-ins from the folder, and the beep was still there.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks
