If limited to 2 effects to mix, what would you choose?

If you could only use two effects to mix, what would you use and why?

Reverb and delay.

Reverb for the sense of space, you can run anything that needs it into the same verb and it will sound ok.

Delay for the lead vocal and lead guitar just as an effect. You can use the same setting for both, just use more of it on one than the other.

Yeah definately reverb and delay. For those exact reasons. Reverb, used right, to make everything gel together and sound natural. Delay to add complexity and grab a bit more of your attention.

In fact I rarely use much else after tracking.

Delay could be done by copying tracks and offsetting them.

EQ and Compressor for me. If I need verb, I'll just mic a speaker in a bathroom.

I could use the room as natural verb, which I prefer anyways. And there are tons of ways to get "delay" then using a processor.

Haas and Doppler. Because they're the only effects I can think of off the top of my head.

I don't understand what the OP considers an "effect". While all effects are processing, not all processing can be considered an "effect". If we're talking about processing in general, I'd have to say fader automation and multi-parametric EQ. If we're talking sound effects, reverb is the only one I can think of that I care to use.

If so, I would have to go with EQ and compression. Of course, if you only get one instance of an EQ or compressor, that's pretty useless. I'd probably go back to my original answer in that case.

no, it's more of a hypothetical question aimed at looking at what most people consider "must have" items when it comes to mixing.

I've been screwing around with some mixing lately after a long break and just kind of getting some juices moving.
