New mix

Ok, guys, here's a new mix. I've tried to tackle what was mentioned here, bass, kick, voice, hihat, mostly played around with the EQs. Would appreciate your opinion as to which mix is better.

Thanx to all of you! :)

My speakers really suck at the moment, so they both sound good to me!

In fact

they sound so good,

I'm going to put them on my mp3 player :D

(think that's about the highest praise I can garnish as a broke college student with crappy speakers :P)

The new mix sounds better but the Kick's beater click is still the loudest thing in the mix. It needs to be less sharp on the high end as to not draw attention away from the other instruments. I know it's futile to suggest EQ settings without having the track but I'll take a stab anyway.

use a parametric EQ on the kick

frequency = 10k
Q = 2
start at a level of -20db and adjust from there

That should give you more "thud" and less "click" which may require you to lower the level and/or roll off some of the low end.

As stated this is just a wild guess so use the suggestions accordingly.

Glad you like it GI!
Hope you go on enjoying it. :):)

Thanks Ocnor! I kind of like it the way it is, but I'll review it again.;)

It all sounds superb Joey, everything just fits together so well. I listened to this style a lot as I was learning guitar-but I sure can't play it like you do. I cannot find any faults in it-congrats!!!!:D

Thanks Tony, glad you like it!
Sure wish I could play banjo and mandolin like you do....;):)

Great job on this one Joey. There's some real attention to detail in the writing and performance. It's one of the my favorites from this board over the last while. I think the second mix sounds a bit better, maybe more even overall level... Great!

Thanx Gerry!
Those are some really nice compliments. :)

I prefer the first 2009 version, changes I hear in the second are less lows / more highs.
At least on my monitors first sounds more "well balanced".

Thanks for your comment Ciro!
I'll be looking at a balance...;)

The hardest part of playing either of those 2 instruments is to not attempt to play them like a guitar in any way...the tunings are totally different-mandolin is same as a fiddle and the drone string on the banjo--I just have to play it by feel:o.
Having to play a mando for a whole gig-3 to 4 hours-will help to get really acquainted with the instrument's fretboard and learn the scales that will fit the songs.

you do it pretty well though, I like what you played on Rokket and Chilli's songs. ;)

I swear I'm gonna listen soon!

Haven't been able to listen to anything lately.

Nice record. Kinda reminds me of mid-70's R&R...Deep Purple...Uriah...Sabbath.... Good styles never get old.

Sounds excellent...I wouldn't change a damn thing.

I fucking love your voice man!!

Would love to get your vox on some of my shit.

Sounds good, to me.

I hear some Dio here, not voice wise more like style wise.
wich is damn cool.

I think your vox are a bit burried in the start then they come out and rock massively:cool: they also seem to be a bit uneven volumewise throughout, maybe some better compression or automation would help

This is very well played exelent musicanship, wish you got some real drums on this at a time, it would kick the tune up a few notches.

real cool tune.
defenitly classy 80`s metal:cool:

nice one :-)

Vocal certainly has more clarity now, imo! Good stuff Joe! Am still looking forward to hearing a real drummer on this track though...considered it?

Cheers,
Ben.

Greg - no problem buddy :)

Jeff - yup, no doubt about that, although I love to listen to "newer" stuff nowadays. Sabbath remain my greatest icons.

Murdersgalore - Thanx, bud! Ain't no reason why we shouldn't try....

Nak - DIO is one of my biggest influences when singing, so I'm happy with the comparison. :)

Ben - Sure, would be nice to have real drums on it. I just wanna get this CD done though and move on to pastures new....maybe I can collab with a real drummer on my next projects. Although I actually do enjoy programming drums. But I know it can sound good, but not 100% real.

Very nice Joey. Mix sounds just right for the style of music. Guitars sound great. Maybe the vocals could be a tiny hair louder. Just barely.

I'd do real drums for you all day long if I was good enough to play this stuff. :o
