Nakatira

That Norwegian Bastard

Its a rather large composition clockin in at 13.30 or so.

Most of the track was recorded live in studio in one take.

some overdubs are made.

this will be the outro on our new record.

This is my first mix of the tune, I expect to do some more tweaking, apreciate any input:)

Nak,
Downloaded 1st - if you say it's your best - bloody hell I have to own it.
Beware my observations - I have new & not very good at all h/phones so I've had to tweak the EQ inside the player to get a more neutral reading.
The intro is quiet - had to turn it up to get the subtle bits.
I know you'll be pleasd when I say that at 2.49 it's very prog 70's. I like the tone of the bass - the high runs aren't lost - you must have sorted out the bass compression well or the player knows how to be consistent.
The change at 4 min is cool - still good bass - I was desperately hoping for some mellotron swaths thought.
Love the o'driven B3 sounds.
7.10 nice change. The keyboard is applying some 'tron ness for me.
The drums need to get a little of the punch action the bass has.
9.20 nice piano interlude. Ah, some lead guitar - nice tone reminds me of Albatross a little - laid back but still bites in the right places. Now it takes off & FLIES.
I LOVE the string squeaks - remind me of Budgie's Parents.
The ending is good - perhaps needed just a couple of seconds more of fade out.
Excellent journey mate. thanks for taking me on the trip.

hooray for long song forms!!! i have a 13-minute extravaganza that i'm closing out my new disc with too. :)

first, if i had to sum up this song with one word, it'd be "organic." this thing just breathes. the dynamics, the expressiveness of the arrangement and performance--it's moving, refreshing, cathartic, liberating...great job, man!

i couldn't really find any elements of the mix that stuck out to me as being problematic. everything sits well, i'm not squinting to hear anyone. again, well done.

a bit of commentary on specific sections:

from 4:00 to 5:30 i'm wanting some serious keyboard soloing! big EP or organ arpeggios, runs, etc. i want someone going NUTS here.

i love the belted-out vocal part around the halfway mark. i wish i could sing like that.

the 8:45 climax is mind-blowing. excellent.

lead guitar at the end has a beautiful tone. perfect amount of reverb. mmm, creamy. :)

Thanks mate.

I`m glad you enjoyed it:)

I`m gonna tweak a bit more, but this version will probbably stay.
We do keyboard madness in the tune that is before this one, on the next record:D

Lots of interesting musical things going on in this piece Nak. Definitely a top shelf bit of writing. This is very 70's - theatrical in spots and diverse in its many parts. Classic Rock Stations would play this. The mix is pretty good too - not much I'd really recommend, Great job.

Thanks Ido.

Apreciate it:cool:

Man, I always like your music. You are so progressive and don't give a rat's ass about cookie cutter genres that are supposed to be contemporary.

My only nit as I'm hearing this is that it isn't as hot as I would like it to be.

Maybe you could boost the master about 3dB's. That would do the trick.

Very theater-esque, which I really like. I am really thankful that I can hear some music from guys like you who ignore the box. Some people will say that they can relate because they have lived through the 70's, but I'm not sure that the 70's offered this exactly.

I am entertained. I just wish it was a little hotter.

Wig:)

Thank you ever so much for the kind words buddy.:)

Its gonna be a bit hotter, how much is hard to say.
This is just the main mix bounced down no level corection has been made.
Normally I run it through a limiter and bring it up, but I`m sending this away for mastering, not yet but real soon.

I found a nice Mastering engineer named Andy jackson, who`s clients include david Gilmour and Pink floyd.
So I just thought what the heck I only live once, nice having something in common with the floyd:D

Love the melody that kicks in around 6:30.

Naka, I like all your stuff, so it's hard for me to say this is your best. It's gonna take a few listens for me to get there - you've got some good stuff.

Nice organ tones throughout - although maybe sometimes a little loud.

It's prog, but it's also kind of glam. I like it.

Cymbals sound great.

Nice work, Nakatira.

Wow NakMan.

I am seriously impressed. I don't get many chances to sit down and listen to the tunes around here and when I sat down tonite, I saw this and...well...wow. Nice job man.
The flow and the progressiveness def reminds me of Floyd with the Nak touch. Most excellent in my book.

Dude...no nits here other than bringin the level up but I know where yer at with it.

Very cool.

Kel

I am humbled. This is simply awesome. It sounds like it would be the final song on a story-themed album, like Floyd or Alice Cooper. The tragic hero finally comes to terms with his plight.

And you did this in one take?? Wow.

Thanks casey, will still tweak this mix some more, should have a new one up real soon:)

Thanks for the comment on the cymbals, I used 2 UA solo`s and two akg414`s in a large room.
I thought they sounded great, best I`ve ever got them, Most of the Cymbals are Paiste.

Wow NakMan.

Thanks man, really apreciate the good feedback, floyd are huge heroes of mine:)

Thanks man, It fits as an album finisher IMO also.
The tune is about a documentary I once watched about human trafficing.
In the end the main person jumps into certain death, therefore the sudden death in sound before the solo ourto

I loved it. Nice work Naka.

Thanks Tim

I think the master could be a little hotter.

I`m hoping and guessing he the master-man)will do that:)

Well done, Nakatira, inspired song, great performance....
Good mix too,no nits for me;my taste is for a little more bottom end (~60/80hz).

Ciro

This is really impressive, Nak, a great artistic effort!;)
You manage to capture so many different moods and the influences of all those 70's greats is evident the whole way. Is that you singing here? Great voice! Well done and hats off!

Joey :):):):)

Oh man...this is EPIC! I really enjoyed this, listened in my car on my commute this morning...Fantastic use of dynamics, although I do agree the levels are a little low in the intro...had to turn it up pretty loud in the beginning......vocals are just outstanding...keyboards /organ sounds killer, vocals are fantastic, agree with drossfile about the tone on the ending guitar solo...it's like buttah :D!...vocals are fantastic! About the only nit I would have is overall levels/volume...I think it just needs to be kicked up a tad...
Did I mention those vocals are fantastic?:p
Dude, congrats ...a wonderful piece of music that I find .... being inclined to this genre of music..... truly inspirational!

Man oh man. That is really something, Naka. I have no idea how the hell you put all of this together, but thank you VERY much for doing it. I'm happy that someone, anyone, is doing anything like this anymore, and that I got to hear it. Too good for commercial radio.

I hear old Floyd, like Atom Heart Mother or Obscured by Clouds. Also reminds me of some early 70's Tull--especially the songs that have a lot of piano. Hmmmm. . . too much to get it all in one listen. If you're not going to re-post a hotter version anytime soon, then I may just have to download this.

And that reminds me. I WANT A NAKA CD!!

And it doesn't have to be an 'official' 'produced' CD. A CD-R with a bunch of your shit crammed on it would be awesome. I don't care if it's not all mastered properly or if its different musicians or if its new or old or has any other issue. Come on!!! Pretty-please?!
