nope
phantom power is for powering condenser mics. so if you have a condenser mic plugged into the pre, you would need the phantom power on (on the preamp). the pre would then feed a line level signal to your mbox, no phantom power necessary on the mbox.

yea...but would i use an xlr cable from the pre to the mbox or a trs?

doesn't matter. they're both delivering a balanced signal.

alright thanks a lot. i know that this question has been asked many times, but i am going to be buying a new preamp/mic for r&b/hiphop.
the preamps will either be dmp3 or vtb1
as far as the mics go...looking for a durable condenser in the 200 doller range that will deliver crisp, quality sound...any recommendations?

mics are pretty finicky devices, especially for voice, and i know absolutely nothing about your genre. you may want to hit the rap/hiphop forum for advice on that one. good luck man.
