Take a listen to the song "KeyHeart"

This was tracked/mastered on my TASCAM DP-02CF in about 2 or 3 hours. I would love any comments or suggestions or anything you could tell me about it. Im starting to get the feel of multi-tracking. The only thing im confused about right now is the shelf EQ im sure it would be a great help someway but am not sure what exactly it does.

Thanks for any help, advice, suggestions etc.

BIG problem: Panning. Your mix sounds like a mono file.

1. Guitars.
You're using two guitars. Do like you do in the real world: put on guitar to the right, and the other to the left. Now listen again, how does it sound?

2. Drums
I don't like the hi-hat sound. First thing is to correct the position, it's about 2 or 3 o'clock (think a bout a real drum kit) To smooth your hi-hat try to put more reverb or room and turn the fader down like 2dB.
Overall drum performance is dull, you don't have cymbal accents or maybe subtle rhythm changes (on kick or snare), it's all flat.

3. Vocals
Sounds OK to me, just avoid that panning effect of the BG vocals or try to position them closer to the center.

Luck!

Thanks!

Thanks alot for the help! i kinda thought i should have paned one of the guitars left and the other one right. but didnt think to much about it.

ABOUT THE DRUMS:

Alot of my drum beats come from a Digitech BP-80 bass guitar processor pedal. If you can change the sound of different parts of the drums and add reverb and such then i havent figured it out yet. Its a really simple processing pedal. I wish so badly that i had my own drum set for recording mixes but. if you have a full drum set then its a must to have a front end mixer correct?

What do you mean it sounds like a mono file? Do you mean that things are just not panned correctly?

What do you mean the BG vocals? I know what you mean by the panning effect that i did but i was just wondering what BG was.

Thanks alot for the help! and i will let you know when i re-mix it and post the new one. THanks again

UPDATE on "KeyHeart"

Things i have done with this mix:

1. panned rhythm guitar to the left and lead to the right
2. brought up all vocal levels except the "Im yours" part. (Should i bring that up as well?)
3. panned the different vocal tracks to either center or left and right depending.

Thanks for taking a listen and giving any advice if you could.

It seems a little better, I think the bass guitar could come up. The bass sound could be a bit more defined too.

Thanks a lot! And yea it is suppose to be only :58 secs long. I love making the little short mixes ya know? If it was like 3 mins long it would sound so the same because i haven't figured out how to add in another drum beat off of my bass guitar processing pedal. I'm guessing i just need a drum machine?

anyway... thanks for the help as i will bring the bass guitar up. Seems as it is sorta buried right?

Can someone possibly help me with the shelf EQ on the TASCAM DP-02CF?

I will post another thread in the TASCAM but just thought i would mention that i need a little help.

Thanks a lot.
