I'm gonna use a shorter verb on the drums in the new mix.

Well, first the drums.... the snare could come up. Leave the verb or remove it. In a decade your choice will be instyle again if it's not now. The bass in this song was of note. I also noticed the bass playing right away. Very cool playing. The drums are done well. The guitars.... you don't really play power chords in the duh duh duh duh in that 4/4 style much, eh? You're always busy with very creative guitar rhythm composition and solos. Which is really cool.

Lastly, the vox are very cool. Very suited to the style of music and very much rocking to listen to. The lyrical content of your songs is always pretty interesting.

On the new mix I'm doing, I'm cutting back a lot of the verb on the drums. The guitar playing.....well actually I'm a singer.;) But I love guitars....
I do take care to vary a little when it comes to arranging solo parts, I like to have interludes in my songs. Just things I learned in time by observing and doing....
Lyrics are kind of apocalyptic conspiracy theory, I love those kind of subjects, they go well with heavy music.

It's nice to hear guitars played like that. They drive the songs much more than the regular duh duh duh duhs. And they add more description to a song. Those apocalyptic songs are pretty fun sometimes. Like the song Stargazer by Rainbow. It was a weird song but overtime I liked the song... especially the playing on it.

i liked the first mix way better. i like it, it sounds very nice. like a little packet of candy(the first mix). vocals seem very alice in chains influenced. i just dont think lyrically or musically it could be a hit for todays kids, if you released this in 92, or whenever that was, this "zero chain" would be on one of those early 90 compiliations and they would show your video with the hair and in some black and white grungy scene close up shaking on your big lips vibrating.
 
I love the Rainbow->AliceInChains (and i thought of that before I read the previous comments mentioning both those bands - I swear :) ) sort of stuff I hear in your tunes - this one kicks ass.

Do you have the Jesus Christ Super Star record with Murray Head singing the part of Judas (and of course, Ian Gillian as JC)?
 
I like this mix better. the drums seem to have a more modern "click" sound to them. Also, the guitars sit better and there is more clarity between the parts. Maybe because there is different or less reverb. There is still a market for this style, it's close to something like Iced Earth, but not as heavy.

yup, the influence is there. JCS was one of my favourite albums when I was a teen, I sang along to every single note of it...but I had the film version. I'd heard the Ian Gillan one too though but I can't remember Murray head, though I know he was a damn good singer. But Rainbow meets AIC sounds good to me...;):)

Yeah, reverb tends to make things sound muddy and should be used sparingly...I'm still learning. :D Never heard of Iced Earth, but I'll look them up, thanx. ;)

Cool vocals Joe, I admire the way you control the low stuff as well as the high. After listening to a few other tracks tonight I noticed the compression on this a bit more I think. The balance is perfect but it seems a wee bit squished. In another sense though it doesn't sound wrong it just sounds different. It would be more radio ready I believe. What do you think?

Yes, I did squash it a teeny bit more, don't know if it was really intentional though, because it's the single tracks (especially the drums) that I worked on most. Idea wasn't to make it radio friendly though, don't know any radio station that would play it....:D

I wish you could have a real drum here. You could kill here in PR since there's a huge metal scene here.
