Same for me!

Ahhh...memories. When I was a kid, I was hardly ever seen without my cassette recorder & mic. Looked just like that.

It was the beginning of a long downward spiral.................

For $38? Stop teasing me with shit I can't afford. I want to make hit records now, dammit.

PS... my daddy was in Wings

You and Jordan have the same daddy? Wait, no, his daddy produced your daddy's band. :p

In all seriousness, I've heard some really decent quality live bootlegs recorded in this manner. Better than some pro live recordings I've paid for and certainly better than some of the stuff I've heard here recorded on late 70's wings equipment.

Why has no one told this kid the truth...you cant get pro. recordings for $38.00 and I dont think your even ready because you asked that question...plug a mic into your sound card and try out reeper for free with some sample loops...thats the best your going to do!!!

Edit: Wow...just looked at THE HIT KIT and that just might work for you....

PS. If you dad was in wings (love band on the run) why cant you come up with more than $38.00?
My dad played in a cover band my whole life and managed to get a tascam 12 track reel to reel back in the 80's...ahhh...loved them crappy dbx boxes it had to go through!!!

Ssshheewww...

(the sound of the entire thread fly just over your head)

It's more of a

FFFFFFFFVVVREEEEEENNNNNWWWWWW

kind of sound. Much bigger. Your sound was more helium baloon creeping up.

You won't get a pro sound. Period. If you could, why would people ever spend a penny more than 40 bucks, let alone hundreds of thousands building studios?

This thread has been sarcasm'd out, so I'll give you some real advice:
Audacity has been mentioned. Go download it. Do you have Rock Band or Guitar Hero 4, by any chance? If so, plug that mic into your computer. Press record in audacity, and bam, you can record for the cost of absolutely nothing. If you do not have a USB mic, you can pick one up for pretty cheap. In fact, can you loan 5 bucks from someone? If so, you can get this one at your local radioshack. Not the highest of quality, but this way you don't need to buy a preamp or anything. If not, you'll be able to find one a little cheaper. You'll want to save up for a mic stand, too.

Also, talk to your dad. If he was in a band, he might have an old 4-track laying around somewhere. Or, he might know somebody looking to get rid of one.

SLAP!

A naiant X-P - $29, plugged into the mic input of a soundblaster soundcard[/URL](not professional, but does give a voltage) - $7.99, recorded with audacity - FREE.

SLAP!

SLAP! ...and a kick in the ass for believing my daddy was in Wings.

That one is my favorite. Even after someone pointed out that the thread was a joke, he still took it seriously and then sent me off to Radio Shack. Sorry, it's off to the castration machine for you!!! (j/k, you can keep your bollocks)

Have none you guys never seen satire before?

Figured they were referring to most of the answers. Trust me, there are many people who would legitimately ask this question. :P

Nope. We just got the joke from the start. ;)

A guy with 800+ posts in a "recording" forum is a good bet to have picked up at least a little bit of knowledge along the way.

Trust me, there was no serious intent to the orginal post. It was done in jest.

And $38.00 wouldn't even buy an hour of recording time in a pro studio... which is the only way any of us will get pro sound.

But as other people have posted, WHAT IS PRO SOUND?

It certainly doesn't mean GOOD sound. Someone please tell me.

Your sense of humor is astounding.

I have just what you need!:D[/

I had an old Wollensack green cassette recorder (from the school ). These recorders I discovered could do sound-on-sound! It was a design flaw that allowed me to overdub! If you push the record and play buttons at the same time but don't allow it to lock, the tape does'nt hit the erase head. The previous recording was still there and you could record another track (sound-on-sound). It was way cool for the time and the rest of my band never figured out how I did it.

Wow... I remember that... right down to the brand and color...
Damn... Sherman, set the way-back machine
