I spent some time remixing my version and then listening to this on various systems. I remixed totally on the computer in Sonar 6. I think it sounds better than the original mix I posted. Please have a listen and let me know what you think... I'm waiting for drum tracks from Llarion then I'll try mixing with real drums and post that too - should be good practice.

This is so not my type of music, but sounds good. I really like the bass sound, is it a rick? (yougota a picture withone). You should definatly do it with real drums cause yer drum machine kills the groove of song compleatly. Ill keep a lookout for the version with realdrums

Thanks for the listen Polska_77 :). Yes, Mike uses a Rickenbacher bass. I agree - real drums makes a world of difference... :D

Gerry, I know the pain.
When I learnt about compression (it's existence that is) I remixed everything. When I learnt about how to use compression (not for gain) I had to redo those remixes.
Then - through Greg L I learnt about some final buss stuff like the classic limiter and some subtle EQing at that stage I re did everything again.
Each one was a learning thing & with the exception of the 1st compression sessions, an improvement was had.
This mix sounds fuller, the guitars sound meatier & the solo sits beautifully.
Well done!

Thanks Ray ! I'm still learning - like how to use plugins and eq properly. It's getting better but still lots to learn... :D

Sounds pretty good to me. The vocals were right where they need to be. The balance of the gits and bass and drums was right on, too. I have no nits. Good song and mix IMO. Wig:)

I remember this one...from my recollection, this mix is superior. The vocals blend better spatially with the instruments. Also seems as though there are more high frequencies reproduced this time around. What exactly did you do to it. Sounds like different (more?) verb?

Real drums would be way cool.

Sounds very good. One thing. Is it me, or its clipping a little? A real drum will do justice to this great song. Kudos!

Thanks Wig ! I appreciate the listen and the feedback. I'm glad you think it sounds good...it means I might be heading in the right direction...

Thanks heatmiser ! Completely different - using Sonar and plugins instead of mixing it through my board and processors. For reverb I'm using Lexicon Pantheon plugin. It's close to my PCM80 IMO...I'm playing around with settings. Some EQ but still working on that part - sonar channel EQ's work different than the knobs...

I thought I noticed that too but am on pc speakers and didn't trust it...just a hair of unintended distortion perhaps?
Sounds like limiter distortion.
I'm not hearing any...but that's not saying it's not there lol.... Wonder if it could be partially the mp3 encoding which is not the greatest at 128kps. The VC64 plugin I used doesn't have a limiter "per se" just gate/de-esser/comp/eq...and I only used comp and eq via a pre-set.
Thanks for the listen and the feedback. I'm going to use the headphones and see what I can hear...

Great song, Gerry! :)
I'd heard this before, but this mix sounds great. With real drums it should be complete. You sound like Stevie Winwood and that's a compliment. ;)
Nice solo! Really nice performance overall! :D

Joe :):):D
