Ah, Mashtah,
The grass is green , but why?
The grass is less than green, but why?
Please, show me how to step on the grass whether it be green or not quite so green.
Sorry, nice to see you helping others so patiently - I know because I've tested your patience with my own personal stupidy and you've not flinched.
I'm going to play this version to my class on Monday!

Fantastic Greg. I really loved this. I really like how you added the little chants that I remember from elementary (like a light bulb). You missed "santa came to say (ho ho ho)" though, but no big deal. This just rocked, and knocked it out of the park. I have downloaded it. Thanks for that.

Awesome !!!!!

Your song is freakin' awesome.

If you don't mind, would you share what your recording process was?? :D:)

Lol. Dude, I'm musically the dumbest mofo on the interwebs. If you're stupid, then I must be in a freaking coma. I know nothing about theory or anything. I don't know scales, time sigs, reading music, nothing. I don't even know any rudiments and I call myself a drummer. I'm a total hack. But when I think I can help someone, I usually try to. :D

Tell your class a Cajun/Italian guy from Louisiana that lives in Texas says Merry Christmas. :)

Haha thanks. The chants were the kids' idea. We didn't sing it like that when i was a kid. :p

Thanks. Um, I'd be glad to try and answer any specific questions you have, but the whole "recording process" is too much to list.

Dude, you always have a good way of making songs sound good.

The kids sound great. I remember you something similar last year? It only seems like it was a couple of montha ago. Time flies. These are the time you have to remember.

The kids just sound awesome. This is a good argument FOR having kids.

Thanks for sharing. :D

The mix sounds great. I remember you said you use Reaper? I can't get Reaper to sound half way decent. It's pissing me off. Plus the sequence editor in Reaper is just blah. But it's free. So I'll give it more time to prove it's worth.

Ha Ha! Sounds tremendous...what fun :).

Kids sound awesome. Intro sounds a bit odd melodically, but I knew it was going to blast off into more straight-ahead rockin territory before long, and you did not disappoint. Nice job man. Excellent recording.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I use Reaper. I don't know what a sequence editor is, so Reaper works great for me. :D

Hahahaha...what a treat!!

Never enjoyed the song so much in my life Greg! Kids were great and so was dad. Loved the wiener dogs musical input too!:D

Got another great memory of good times going down for the GregLs...

Thanks a lot. Yeah I use Reaper. I don't know what a sequence editor is, so Reaper works great for me. :D

Step sequencer allows you to step by step edit a whole pattern for one or many measures. Then, you can in a playlist, play that pattern anywhere you want. Thus making a complete song out of the entire playlist of the patterns. Sortof like buying drum loops and fills and putting them together to create a song.

With sequencers, it becomes easy to use a soundfont of a drumkit and hammer out a drum beat, then also use a VSTi bass or a soundfont of anything to use as bass and lay out the entire bass track. Then the keys. Also you could edit your midi capture playing in a sequencer to adjust bad notes.

Anyway, what do you think of Reaper's VST support and basic plugins provided with it? Do you download extra ones or do the basic ones suffice. After using Acid Pro, I couldn't figure out the Reaper plugins. They seemed primitive.

Also if you load too many wav files, Reaper just becomes very unresponsive. As opposed to Acid, which would only become unresponsive if it couldn't handle playing all those together with realtime FX. Reaper doesn't do anything once too many files are loaded. But if it's free.... it must be give time to catch up to the nice features of the big packages.

Reaper's midi editor/step sequencer.

Man, you pretty much lost me with that entire post. I don't map out or do MIDI anything. I know absolutely nothing about MIDI or measures or soundfont or sequencers or synths or keys or any of that stuff. I couldn't even begin to understand that shit. I can't read music, time sigs, measures, bars, notes or anything. I know the notes on my guitar, but it really does me no good because I don't know any scales or what key anything is in. You can tel me a song in in A-minor and you might as well be speaking chinese. I'm strictly a self-taught punk rock drums, bass, and guitar kind of guy. I just plug in and let er rip. Surely my musical ability is severely stunted by my own self-inflicted lack of knowledge of even the most rudimentary musical theories, but fuck it. There's no room for techie shit in punk rock. ;)

As for plug-ins, I use very few. But people way better/smarter than me rant and rave about Reaper's user-friendliness, so I imagine you just haven't figured it out yet. Like with music, I'm a computer dummy, so if I can figure it out surely anyone can. I use the Kjaerhus classic series free plug-ins and a few Reaper plugs. This Rudolph song here is about 45 tracks of various shit. Reaper handled it no problem.

Yeah all that MIDI stuff is basically something you slowly learn when you don't have real drums or bass or synths laying around. :D. So you keep clicking on stuff until stuff keeps happening and slowly you learn to make it work a certain way. No worries. Don't worry, if you told me what's in A minor, I'll be clueless. I don't do music theory and scales and such.

The plugins were simple to use but I guess not as user friendly as FLStudio or Acid. But that could be my bias towards those because of learning those first. But I guess I found the EQ stuff limiting. However, I'll download the Kjaerhus stuff. And might be that I just need a new computer for more tracks.

Good to know it works. :)

Didn't mean to bore you to tears.

:) :D

Check out the ReaEQ in Reaper. Really nice and easy to use. I think it's a great EQ.

I had a little trouble adapting to Reaper from Cubase, but once it clicked, I was blown away by it's simplicity and ease-of-use. Stick with it. I have yet to hear of anyone not liking Reaper.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. :D

Me and the chilluns rocked this shit. Even the weiner dogs got involved. :D

Merry Christmas everyone! :)

And thanks to Andyhix for giving me the chord chart for the intro. I'd never have guessed those chords. :p

lol, just listened for the first time--i haven't been in here in awhile. great stuff as always, the drums sound crazy good (even better than usual), and just the whole concept--you and your kids doing this--puts a huge stupid grin on my face. nice work man.

and merry christmas! :)

Greg, you're a crazy dude man, but this is great fun for this time of year. Definitely got a touch of The Ramones about it.

Just thought I'd bump it up to say happy Xmas to all,
Dreamer :D

Ehhhhh.....

That was AWESOME! (The sound is freakin great, too, man!) Way to go, dude. My wife's gonna love this.:D:D:D

And Merry Christmas! (and all that stuff)
