okay, so right now, i'm only recording acoustic guitar and vocals, i have a lexicon omega interface, akg perception microphone, presonus tubepre, and acoustimax guitar pre, but i would like to improve my sound, what else should i buy? thanks, ben

A lot of people would ask, what dont you like about your sound?

That might help you figure out what you need to improve.

well i would say fuller and just more professional sounding

Ways to improve your sound. Hmm. Well for acoustic guitar and vocals, sounds like one or two channels is plenty. First thing I'd do is make sure the room you're recording in is treated well. Check out the sites studio building threads for some DIY tips.

Next, I'd get a good SDC for guitar and a good LDC for vocal and guitar. Used MK-012s can be found for $120 or so. Spend another $75 on a Michael Joly mod, and you've got a fabulous guitar mic. The LDC, must depend on your voice. Lot's of good choices. You have to decide.

Then there's the converters and pre's. Quickest easiest and cheapest upgrade I see is an Apogee duet, but that assumes you're recording on a Mac. The pre's are clean, two channels, the conversion is good and they go used for around $400 all the time. The choices are almost endless. Lots of great gear out there. It all depends on your budget. How much are you wanting to spend?

Good monitors should be in there somewhere. It's hard to make great sounding recordings without really hearing things accurately.

+1 on room treatment and monitors. You didn't mention that at all and the gear you have is adequate to get a good recording.

+1 to What they said.

Don't be afraid to experiment with what you have before you rush out to buy something else. You may find that a few small adjustments may be worth more to your sound than a 200 dollar microphone could have been.

Question: how many simultaneous "analog" tracks can you do with the Lexicon Omega ?
how about MIDI I/O at the same time ?
I'm looking at 2 Mic inputs + 2 Line In = 4, or possibly 1 Mic and the instrument input + 2 Line In = 4... will it handle that ?
