Drummer needs to die. I fucking hate this nothing but cymbals thing that seems to be "punk" bands do these days. Pop punk/post pop punk is not the best genre name for this.
It's not awful. Take away half of your drummers drums and turn up your PA.
Use 2 - 4 mics and get a tascam 4 track and everything will sound MUCH better.
We actually multi-tracked a lot, and used a lot of mics...the problem is on
my DP-02 (hardly good equipment) it wouldn't let me export the tracks seperately so i was forced to mix the whole thing on the units two band eq and panning knobs...instead of in my DAW like I wanted to and tracked intending to.
We are not punk though, our music isn't exactly trying to be the Casualties or Black Flag. It's post-punk (a label thrown on after listening to the song not before) as in my main ifluences here are The Cure and The Pixies and Sonic Youth and new wave/synth pop stuff.
Yes the sets a piece of shit but its used and over thirty years old. The hardware sucks, the snare rattles, the cymbals are cracked...but I can't afford anything else. So I'm just making the best with what I have, and not letting it stop me from trying to make music.
Lastly I plan on remixing it at some point, as I realze the obvious problems (buried kick, tinny guitar (which was actually tracked with a lot of low end..but ended up confused in that mix) it's also one of the first fullband recording I've mixed...(up until now I've recorded very solemn acoustic/ambient type stuff.) But I plan on remixing it before it goes any further.
Trust me there is no pretense. We've been a band for 3 weeks, we did this as something to give to our friends as a "single". I don't exactly take our music thats seriously, but it's fun and it's what I've loved since I was 6 years old.
