Slowing becoming un-noob.
It would save me a but load of money. I've heard that M-powered has a Little less features than normal, but nothing that would really make a difference.

Do you agree?

What would you suggest?

Yes, I will be recording other people, if that changes your opinion at all...

Thanks

Elliot

I'd be going with the M-audio Profire as opposed to the 003r or something.

I notice that the Profire can have up to 24-bit/192kHz and the 003r only 24-bit/96kHz. So not sure if that would make a lot of difference or not.
Bottom line though is the Profire is 1/2 the price of the 003r.

EDIT: I'm leaning towards yes...so those of you who say NO, tell me why not!

I have played around on an m powered system long enough to track 1 session. In my experiences not that big of a difference to tell you no. So I say go for it.

i have m-powered and it works fine, i use LE in school and i hardly notice a difference, u can make just as good of recordings with m-powered as LE

So you say hardly notice a difference..so like, what differences do you notice? I'm just curious.

make sure you research the profire before you go that route...I have read that there are several issues with it....Wish I could remember exactly where...but look around before you just jump on it....I have M-powered with my delta 1010 and I love it....took some time to make the transition from Adobe Audition....but I dont regret it now....

Awesome. I'll definitely do some research, thanks!

No difference at all. Except you can't add the dv toolkit. If your doing music its fine.

Basically a tool kit for advanced post production features. I think gives you 3 plug ins for post as well. If your just doing music m powered is fine. Here details are here:

WOAH! $1000?
Yeah, I don't think I'd want it even if I COULD use it with m-powered.

One thing has occurred to me though...when recording other people, or rather trying to get other people to record at Your studio as opposed to the person next door...It's important for things to not only BE good, but LOOK good. I mean, most of the musicians that come in to record probably won't know jack about what stuff we're using except things they've seen before. Like probably the question of course "you guys have pro-tools?" heard that one many times. But yeah. I'm not planning on REALLY investing in pro-tools for another 3/4 years so by then things probably will have changed immensly. But I'm still considering m-powered, that's for sure.

One key thing that I have learned as I know someone who uses a bigger console that is compatible with protools but is using the mbox to connect it. It doesn't matter how you are running protools as long as you are running protools. I have learned that throughout my experiences, whether it be the mbox, the 002, the 002r, or all of their products. Now mind you when I have my mackie d8b hooked up they are all amazed especially when I use automation and the faders start jumping but that is just for eye candy. :)

Not too much will change as far as daws are concerned protools is still gonna be around and be the so called "industry standard" don't know why but I don't see that changing anytime soon. And I know a lot of ppl is going to say it's not the "industry standard" but through all of my connections and contacts every major studio is using it and that's what they say it is so that's what I'm calling it so please don't post about how it is not, this is not my view as I love my protools as I do believe the software doesn't matter, the engineer does. So you might as well start investing now, lol. a little at a time.

I think this thread should be locked, it must be considered dead by now...
