ive been tryin to figure out how to download free VSTi plug-ins so i can do reverbs and such, but it always says it cannot open for some reason because i dont have the software or something to open it.......any one know how to open dll's?

Oh and what are some good FREE plugins for cubase??

You don't open DLL's. Place them in the VST folder for Cubase. Maybe here if you're pc:

C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase\Vstplugins

They will show up as an effect in Cubase.

And you can find a ton of free plugs here:

www.kvraudio.com

I like the Kjaerhaus stuff. Classic compressor and classic reverb, etc...

Peace,

but how to i place it in that folder? im new with cubase and dont erally know how to do that

It's okay.

When you download a file from the internet, it's usually in a compressed format, like "file.zip". You have to extract the file. If you use Windows, you can right click on the zip file and select Extract All. Choose a location for the files, maybe the desktop.

Then copy, or drag, or however you move files around on a computer, to the VST folder shown above.

The next time you start Cubase, it will "discover" the new plugs. You're good to go.

If you have a Mac, perhaps someone else can tell you how to place files where they need to be....

Hope this helps a little more....

You are going to be downloading your plugins to a directory on your computer. Just FYI, your desktop is a directory as far as the computer is concerned.

So download your files (whatever they may be) to a location that you can find again. If you can't do this, then there are deeper issues that need to be addressed by your local community college.

If the files are compressed (ZIP, TAR) then you need to extract them. Google is your friend if you can't figure this out.

Then you need to open the folder where your software will look for the plugin files (the .DLL files). A prior posted suggested one location.

You should now have two windows open... one where the plugin files ARE and one where you WANT THEM to be.

Right click on the one you want to transfer and drag it to it's new home. When you release the mouse key you will have the option of moving (deleting from the old home in favor of the new home) or copying. Choose what you wish.
