UA m610....TLM 103

Hey everybody i have a 2 part question 1st i have a ua m610 pre amp and i was wondering what the out and in switch is for i alway have it on in but i really dont know it what does..2nd i just got a neumann TLM 103 and i wanted to know if thats a good combo.... thanx

That's a polarity reverse switch.

How did you come to decide to buy such expensive gear before you even learned what polarity reverse was?

We were just elsewhere having a discussion about the effect of the marketing machines leading to expensive and inappropriate purchases.

I'm not sure if you fall into that category, but the case is still fascinating, and if you have time I would very much love to know how and why you decided to purchase this particular gear.

i Had a engineer friend that use to work at the hit factory in miami and i was telling him that i hate how cold music sounds now a days and that i liked how songs sound back then.. so he told me to look into ua 610 but i bought the m610 cuz its cheaper

everyone starts out as a beginner and has a lot to learn. people can do this stuff for years and still have a lot to learn-- i know i still do. some kids start pee wee basketball with $200 jordans, some start with $15 starbury ones. it doesn't mean that one will ultimately be a better player than the other, but you just hope that the kid with the $200 kicks doesn't outgrow them too soon or decide that he wants competitively swim

to the op, i found that the m610 worked well at smoothing out bright microphones (in my case, when i had it, a blue blueberry) which the tlm 103, by many reports, is. ymmv

It does seem a little odd to me that you just spent $1,800 on gear that you're not sure will work well together...that's a pretty big risk.

I'm personally not a big fan of the TLM103, but you could ebay it pretty easy if you ended up not liking it.

A great combo for sure. Now your only problem should be mic placement.

The TLM103 is not a bright mic. They only sound that way on cheap pre-amps. This mic only likes expensive pre-amps and that is why most who use it with a cheap pre-amp don't find it of any value.

Well the money thing is not the big deal i look at it as an education as far as what goes with what and what does this and what does that as far as the sound im looking for .. i totally agree with the whole mic placement thing its seems like you got to find its sweet spot
