Why must my mono songs become converted to "stereo" on cd

This is a put on. It was going good until the last few posts.

I took about 5 years off playing or recording any music. I saw the kids down the street walking around with guitars. I asked one of them if he could play the thing and they were very confident and said yes.

I (with their parents permission) fired up the gear for the first time in years and did a rough recording. It was so bad (not the recording, the playing) that I had to keep myself from laughing. I ripped them an MP3 and they were proud as punch and threw it up on their myspace page.

I picked up my guitar again for the first time in years and started writting again. That was 6 months ago. I now have a full band again, 12 songs and we are starting to record next weekend.

(he could be serious, those kids sure were, but I don't think so)

i recorded onto vcr actually, but there were some issues. it sounds much better raw!

Well, not really. First off, we'll assume the speakers are correctly wired, and not out of phase, which will certainly color the sound.

But if you replace a single mono speaker with dual mono speakers, the multiple source points overlap at different factors of wavelength, causing constructive and destructive interference. Human hearing covers wavelengths from about 2cm to well over 15m. Speakers three feet across will exhibit different tonal characteristics from earbuds about 18cm apart, and both will be different from speakers that are any other distance apart.

But really, once you're getting into that critical a difference, it's going to be pointless to bother. Different listeners will be listening through different speakers or earbuds altogether.

My Shure consumer ear buds will sound very different from my Sennheiser reference headphones.
