Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
I researched guitar gear for about a year before I pulled the trigger, which is a lot of planning to do for only $500 worth of stuff.

One item I decided on was a fulltone ocd, which, just as I was about to order, went out of stock at my favorite place to order from online, humbuckermusic. I've had great experiences with them, and I hate having to buy from big boxes.

So I grudgingly went to sweetwater, since I know they ship quickly and free, and carry fulltone. No luck. I emailed humbucker and a NUMBER of other independent stores to ask when they would have an OCD in stock. The sweetwater site kept promising it would be in 'within a day or two,' but after watching that message stay up for over a week, I gave up on them. And all my emails I sent out?

One reply. Just one! So I promptly ordered from them, good price, free shipping, and it arrived promptly. So, in addition to humbucker (even though they didn't get back to me this time), I am now a loyal customer of tonetronix.

Just sort of a heads-up in case there are any dealers here. Sometimes it doesn't take much to win customers, especially when your competition is too busy to even email customers back, even to say 'sorry, no idea.' And I know it's just a lousy $144 pedal, but next time I'm looking for something more expensive, and next summer I may be, where do you think I'm going first?

ANyone else here have favorite independent music stores they buy from online?

My favorite shop (right around the corner) is a small guitar shop called Nitro Tone. They are amazing guys, know their guitars, and their fulltone dealers. They also carry a really unique line of interesting guitars.

Order it from them, they'll take care of you. And the OCD is badass. I got mine from them.

The number is 617-354-3010. Ask for Mike. Tell him Tom referred you. He's the man.

tc4b,
Sounds typical of what passes for customer service these days. I personally think 99% of musical instrument retailers/dealers should be in prison. It's a rare case to get any of them who can see past "getting the sale". Although it's a necessary evil, it feels like doing battle trying to get specific gear and info from these guys.
Email? I never had a reply when enquiring about gear.

I don't know if you're being truly fair. I mean if I got an email with a title like

"Have you got an OCD?"

I'd probably ****can that one too!

:)

This from the OCD description at Sweetwater (but probably imported from Fulltone):

"Who uses Fulltone?
The list of Fulltone fans reads like a who's who of guitar heroes. Both Ron Wood and Keith Richards have Fulltone gear in their touring rigs, as does Nigel Tufnel from the legendary British metal band Spinal Tap, and Boston bad-boys Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton. Punk/rockabilly mainstay Reverend Horton Heat is a Fulltone convert. Other notable Fulltone users include Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard, Jack Bruce of Cream, perennial alt rocker Lou Reed, and Tom Petty along with Heartbreaker Mike Campbell."

Either the copy writer doesn't know that Spinal Tap is a spoof, or the Fulltone guys have a sense of humor.

Yeah, they're a spoof, but I think they actually toured, playing their own instruments. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, great movie!

Yes, they toured, but it was a spoof as well. Nigel is really the actor Christopher Guest. I found it amusing that the blurb for the Fulltone box had Nigel in the middle of a list of heavy weight musicians as if he were one of them. The description played it so straight that it made me wonder whether whoever wrote the copy knew he was fictional or if they were just having fun with it.
