It was autotune.

I saw an interview with the producer, and he demo'd the track on his pro-tools session and walked through how it was used, almost step-by-step.

Why do people do that? There are hundreds of people that had that Jose guy modify thier Marshall because Eddie VH said that the guy had modded his. It never happened. Lying sons of bitches!

The sad part is even if it were true, it wouldn't matter; they still wouldn't sound like EVH. I'm not sure which is worse, the lying on one side or the gullibility on the other.

And as far as Cher; I always thought that it was neither the vocoder nor autotune. I think it's a double cover story meant to hide the fact that that was simply how Cher's voice sounded after multiple strep throats caused by a constant chill from not wearing any clothes.

Funny that this came up because I was looking at sites talking about it.

I love Roger Troutman and Zapp, yanno classic music using vocoders and having some skill to pull it off...but now you have T-Pain (along with others) ruining it. Me personally, I don't mind if it's flat and makes the vocals sound a little robotic if it's just for the purpose of catching your interest and maybe making you (someone who's not into music like we all are) rewind the track to hear it again...the problem is that some people try to fake like that was original unprocessed voice (because what is the general public gonna know?)

Check this out...some of the clip on the site is obvious but some of it tries to fool people.

The Cher tune was autotune. The guy was screwing around and set it to extreme settings just for a giggle, and Cher walked in a demanded that it stay on the record. Or so I hear. Perhaps the whole thing is a myth. Perhaps the tune never existed and it's been implanted into our minds.

I don't see a problem with using anything for effect, but in this case would it not just be the same as double tracking your vocals?

It was a vocorder.

like others said, i was pretty sure it was autotune set to stun...just like you hear from all those guys like akon, t-pain, and the whole fucking lot nowadays

i guess the original vocoder style got played out, so now they're all jumping on the autotune mangling bandwagon. god, i hate hearing that every time i walk past a radio...

does any one here want to actually answer my question besides one guy lol

I used it on about 6 notes on my upcoming CD.:D 1 note on violin, 5 on guitar. They were just a bit out, so I adjusted em and all is well.

OK here's a question. I am (and always have been) totally analog. Is there a way to use this auto tune thingy in my analog set up?

They used to make a hardware unit. (they still might) The downfall of it is that you can really only use it in automatic mode, which is not very usefull if you want anything to sound natural.
