Well...there you went and had to say all those things when all I said was "Very cool"The first thing I notice was dynamics, right from the start. This really ebbs and flows, driven by the strings. The ending is, well, powerful to say the least.
I think the last section is mixed right - it's all blending pretty good (strings and keys).
The backups - and I'm not sure all the instruments involved, have a nice percussive bass sound to them.
Nice levels on the backup strings, and keyboards.
That cathedral organ has to be a few layers deep...it is really thick.
The soloing (well actually all the playing) is just fabulous, as always....
Excellent!

Seriously.....David, have you ever thought about doing this for a living

I kill myself, too. Nice work David. Your violin playing is very expressive. That must be your main instrument. The pace of the piece is a bit labored, but that's not your problem. The staccato bass line in triplets smacks of a dirge like Ravel's Bolero. It's nice, but the tempo could use a little more variation.

Adagio means=very slow. Here's a youtube version with a much slower tempo, which is usually how we play it in the orchestra.
I am trying to figure out a cut, its hard to sustain it with just one guy overdubbed. I appreciate the comments.

Nonetheless, I think my version is too long.I am trying to figure out a cut, its hard to sustain it with just one guy overdubbed. I appreciate the comments.

Sounds good David, but I'm hearing clicks with the note changes on the organ.
I thought it was purdy.
There is also some noise in here I need to edit better. Whenever you are overdubbing 40+ tracks in a room with cats, near the road, there is always a lot of editing work to do.
Did you contemplate a cathedral reverb?
Nonetheless, I think you were on to something in your previous comments. Its a bit stagnant. I think I can fix it through mixing, by bringing out some of the moving lines at times.I have to agree with the comments here that it is not too long. It's beautifully done and about two and a half minutes shorter than the one you linked above

David,
Brother, I wonder if you would mind sharing some of your secrets? I'll assume that you will divulge some info, and go ahead and ask some questions. Thanks in advance!!
When the strings start the melody. the "swell" of the notes in incredible. Can you share what sample/keyboard/sound module you have used here, if in fact this is not acoustic strings? Also, what technique did you use to get them to sound like that?

This is real, there are layers and layers of overdubbed violins. There are 12 firsts, 9 seconds and 6 violas. The violas (played on violin) are mixed with a synth patch. Low strings are synths, 3 of them combined. The organ is a Yamaha mm6, two patches mixed. All the parts are heavily eq'ed, mainly high cuts. A violin in a living room is a noisy bugger, so 12 of them together is going to be insanely noisy, let alone the noise room from 12 takes. The high cut is the overdubbers best friend.
Awesome!
I'm doing some songs right now that feature strings, and my synth patches will never come up with what you've done. Go figure, huh?
I'm going to pm you a song, in hopes that you will listen and have some tips!
Thanks David! You rock!
