DryCountry,

I got the flat, but then emailed mshilarious to ask him to change the shipping address cause I screwed up. He said he could, but wondered why I didn't buy the X-G for piano as that was his top choice. So, if he'll change my order I'll be happy. I thought I read the site as the X-T being best for piano, but I read it wrong. I'm guessing for vocals, you'd want the tailored response, but I have no clue!

Either way, I'm excited to get these puppies hooked up. Hopefully they'll still work with the special shockmounts I bought for the MSH-1's.

aside from the self noise thing (which really isn't that bad, but higher than most other mics because of the nature of the very small diaphragm)
the super sdc omni is my desert island mic.

And the new models have lower self-noise than the MSH1-O did.:) But even with the old models' self-noise, used intelligently they're amazing mic's. And I'm not saying that from a good-for-the-money perspective.

I'm thinking about ordering a couple to try as drum room mics, anyone use them for that?

I have the Naiant MS1O's and they are great. I have used them as drum overheads and they sounded amazing and they sound good for recording acoustic guitar too. They were on sale when I got them and they were an awesome deal.

Okay, I just ordered one of the minis

I left a message for Jon and he got right back to me with the answers I needed. Good customer relations, I'm pleasantly impressed. I hope this little fella will be good for what I need because I will order more of them, but I have to give it a try first. At $25 plus $15 for the cable, how can you go wrong. I had been using a mini mic that I paid 5 times that for but it is the wrong pattern and doesn't tolerate the SPL's and is colored on the treble side, so I went back to a fixed mic on a stand.
I'll let you know how I like the X-S, but at that price even of it isn't just right for the doumbek, I'm sure I'll find other uses for it, but if it's right for the doumbek, it'll be a big win for me because it requires so little power, I can probably adapt it to my ATM wireless transmitter.
(crossed fingers)

In any application where what you're recording actually sounds good, they're perfect. What you hear is what you get. I like to record the guitar as I hear it while playing, and they work great for that. My room sucks so I have to close mic everything but they sound great. I've thought about getting a different type of mic...like cardioid for something different, but really, I'm completely fine with these Naiants and see no reason to upgrade at all.

For what it's worth, all the songs on my site were recorded using these (just got 2 new ones with the blue ring thing around them). Music might not be so great but I think the recordings sound really good. :D

Was intrigued and just about to order when I saw that they had the MSH-10s back (?) in stock so I ordered another one of those. I figure I can always get an X-series mic later.

Well, I talked to the distributor (who we all know) and he basically told me that the MSH-1's sonically were the same as the X-G's, and that I shouldn't spend my money for a mic whose only real difference is that it has a metal housing and some other small things. So, I commend him for his customer service skills! I did buy the case though for my pair of MSH-1's. That will be a nice buy.

But, I recommend these mics highly. I use them for my piano, and they sound pretty good even through my crap gear. LOL.

I know mshilarious will think I'm ridiculous, but they had the MSH-2s in stock, so I ordered two as they are ridiculously cheap right now. I'm sure I can find a use for them!

They're super cute too. Always a factor when purchasing gear.

Doh, I meant to say MSH-2's ... now I've got a pair. I forgot to get another set of the clips so I can keep them hanging from the ceiling of my space. These are great mics, no doubt, but for me the room and levels are extremely important. these are less forgiving than the go-to set of room mics, which are Avenson Stapes STO-2 omnis. In a shootout the avenson's won, it was night and day actually, even to my untrained ears but these are great value no doubt just make sure the room, instruments and players are all halfway decent and you're golden.

Oh, and kgirl you're right, they are a damn cute looking mic.

They are most definitely cute.

I own five or so. I have mics I like better for almost every purpose, but they aren't the worst SDCs I've ever owned, by a long shot. And, they cost twenty bucks apiece. No complaints from me, except that the clip can't withstand any type of abuse at all, and most definitely not a stick strike of any type. They didn't last long on toms.

Okay, so I posted a thread awhile ago asking for a workhorse mic, other than a 57 or i5. Someone suggest a Naiant mic.

I'm now genuinly interested in these mics. Since aside from my Rode NT2-A (which are LDCs) I don't really have anything to record acoustic guitar with. What would be recommended? On the site it lists all of the X series mics for that application, which doesn't help too much :P

Hi all,

I looked at those mics Dry Country mentioned, and they're MUCH more expensive, so I would expect them to sound very nice.

I ordered a pair of MSH-2 and a pair of X-Q.
They're shipped and I hope to receive them within a week or so.

I'll be doing a choir recording at the end of this month and will probably work with these mics. Read so much good reviews, so I decided to go for it.:)

These sounded pretty good on acoustic, if I remembered correctly. On the naiant website, www.naiant.com there are sound samples of many different instruments. I'm sure acoustic guitar would be one of them. I don't know what mic was used in the clips...someone told me it was the MSH-1 (s)

I ordered the MSH-2 which in retrospect may not be that great for piano, but maybe my boyfriend can use them if I cannot. I should have ordered more shockmounts and another case. but I can always still get those.

Anyway, have a great day all.

The X-Q's are his top choice for acoustic guitar. The MSH-2s aren't mentioned as a go to mic for acoustic guitar, but I hear it's good for piano. I wish he had the MSH-1 (s) on the application matrix.
