Building a recording booth. Frustrated. Need some suggestions.

For monitors, I'd suggest the behringer truths. The studiophiles are just too small to be really useful.

If you just want to record one at a time, why not buy a M-audio dmp3(great little preamp) and a simple 2 channel interface(Behringer FCA202), comes to $206, and use reaper $50. $256, and the remaining money can be spent on the Behringer Truths, or Alesis M1 active Mk2s(what i have. those are ex-display, new they are $299).

Some good mics to look at are Naiant, Studio Projects B1, and shure sm57(I'll let you search for that, there are a lot of fakes). All have their different uses.

I don't like protools. Their TDM systems are great, but are so pricey, but LE and M-powered are very limited in comparison with other software. You'd be just as well using the free version of cubase LE or Ableton Live that come with certain systems.

Velcro might hold them, but you can just hang them like a picture(except the corner traps). Otherwise, you could build stands for them all.

Yes, you should wrap your panels in fabric/cloth. The fibers are an irritant.
At what volume should I be doing mixing? I have neighbors and was expecting I could do it at a reasonable volume. Are you saying the behringer truths are better in quality or just more powerful/studiophiles are not powerful enough? Does it matter what cloth to use on the panels? After reading some more user review of the mbox/pro tools, I realize I would not be comfortable spending that much money on it. No VST support, chipset issues, bad customer support(no thanks). I am willing to go up to $400 on just the audio interface. What are the differences between other preamps/interfaces than the ones you suggested besides price. Again I want the best quality I can pay for. I will not mention audio interfaces anymore since this is a room treatment discussion, just wanted to get an idea on where to start researching. Thanks for all the help :)

It's not the power. Large woofers can produce lower frequencies at higher volumes. The best volume to mix at is around 85dB, i think, and small speakers can't usually get below around 100Hz. Larger speakers can get down below 50Hz, which should be enough for music.

They should be better quality also.

For the panels, as long as you can breath through it(not too easily though), it should be fine.

A good 8i/o interface is the presonus fp10(firepod). It has good pres for the price, and a lot of people recommend it. This looks like a good deal, although the speakers are only 5". It's generally recommended you have 6+".
