this is my first time posting so i apologize if my thread etiquette is a bit rough. so, i recently sold my firepod to buy the us-1641 because i was interested in having more than 8 analog inputs in one device (i usually record my band of drums, bass, two guitars and keyboard). right now i'm running cubase se on a macbook and everything was fine with the firepod. when i followed the (brief) installation instructions for the us-1641 everything apparently worked fine. but in the system prefs where the device control panel should show up under "other", there was nothing. when i start cubase and go into device setup>vst multitrack i can't find the us-1641 asio drivers in the pull down menu. it seems that after installing the drivers "properly" the tascam asio drivers are still nowhere to be found. i'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem too, or if there's some obvious thing i'm missing. i'm just about ready to ditch this thing and buy another firepod in time for the rpm challenge. thanks for any input!

Well, I've been stugling with this unit also for a full week. Tried it on a laptop (minimal config, not ideal, but normally system was very stable): crashing, variable latency when recording output (No3) back into the US-1641 (No9) with same settings.. sometimes latency is relatively small (600-1000), other times its huge (4000-5000 samples) and not stable at all.. Tried running it with cubase that comes with it, then it seems to work better, but still crashing and variable latency, but alot smaller. Tested it on my dual core, 2Gig memory, SATA 7200 RPSM drive system and the problems were simmilar, w/o the crashing. I want to run it with the software I'm used to (Sonar) and not HAVE TO step to Cubase for this device. USB is NOT RELIABLE if u ask me.The drivers of this unit ARE NOT OK, DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT UNTIL THE DRIVERS ARE FIXED. I'm returning it today for a refund.. what a waste of time and money...

whew, good to know it's not just me then. sorry to hear about the trouble it's causing you, too. after i posted i tried installing the drivers on my desktop which has never stably run cubase and it actually seemed to work, though i didn't test it extensively. all the same, i don't want to lug the desktop around to be able to use the tascam. on the upshot, i just ordered another firepod today, let's hope it gets here by next friday.
