Lol. I'm going for a Southern-hardcore-surf-punk-a-billy-rock kind of thing. :D

Isn't Katy Texas the home of King's X? I just noticed that in your profile.

King's X is one of my favorite "classic rock" style bands. They don't have a single style either. Maybe you could get some "southern classic rock progabilly" thing going with them, start an artistic movement, do some drugs, gets some groupies... ;)

They're originally from Illinois or Indiana or something like that. They moved to Houston sometime during the 80's. They have a pretty large cult following, but I haven't seen or heard anything from them lately. They're kind of like the biggest Houston band that no one knows anything about.

Springfield, MO to Houston in 1985?

I've lived in Houston since '96, and never see shows for them (not that I get out. at all.)

Great song, Greg_L! I was in Omaha in the '80s , and there was a very energetic punkabilly scene there (and probably elsewhere, too -- you wouldn't know if you were in Omaha :) ) - this is bringing up some of those memories

That's strange, I've had a few opportunities here in upstate New York to see King's X since their Dogman release. Maybe they aren't as popular in the south?

Greg,

Did you run any kind of DIY-Master on the stereo bus, or a limiter or anything?

I guess my question is, how did you get it to sound so big ?

Thanks man. Nice to see another Houstonian in here. I play in a punk/metal band here in H-town. I'll fire you a pm for our next show. Come on out if you want.

They're well-known down here, but I can't say that I personally know anyone that really likes them. They're not really my style, but I don't mind them. I used to run into their bass player everywhere back in the 90's. He bought a bass cab from one of my buddies back in like 93-ish. I never seem them gig anywhere.

I push it through a limiter. I use the Kjaerhus Classic Masterlimiter. I sometimes use the W1, but the Classic limiter seems to be a little gentler maybe? I can get loudness with it without making it sound super squashed or harsh.

This sounds pretty well done. It's done. The play is impressive. Your playing is very very impressive dude. The arrangement is definitely very appropriate. The singing is also very good. You know this is a top-notch production.

Thanks bigbubba. :)

Okay yall, here's some more southern-punk-rock-tom-foolery. :D

It's called "Deathride".

Any mix/performance comments are welcome and appreciated. :)

Thanks,
Greg. :)

Here's the corny lyrics:

Black as night and polished steel, you're powerful behind the wheel.
Late at night and all alone you're cruisin through the dangerzone
Screeching tires and broken glass, you feel it when you mash the gas
They can't win and you can't quit
The power is the thrill of it

Whoa, you're gonna take em on a DEATHRIDE!

Everyone, the whole damn town, they all stare when you come around
You're well known for your rumbling sound, you line em up and shut em down
The girls get scared and the guys get pissed, the street at night is your snake-pit
They can't win and you can't quit
The power is the thrill of it

(chorus)
You're gonna take em on a Deathride
They run and hide when you're on a Deathride
You punch the gas and you're on a Deathride
You're living fast when you're on a Deathride

(little solo)

There's no one left, they all went home, once again you're all alone
Back to roam the streets at night, they all went down without a fight
Smoke and fumes still in the air, ghosts of hopes prove you were there
Light em up just for fun
Your night is through, your work is done.

(chorus again, twice)

Hope yall like it. :D

OK, so, I love your covers, but I wanna hear a lot more from you originally. Your confidence is REALLY apparent on this tune, it's bombastic and wild. You have a certain Weird Al tongue-in-cheek style going on, like you're having more fun then you know you're supposed to have. It's very engaging. I'm jealous of your abilities, man. Really terrific. No nits at all. I love that you're willing to take risks with your vocal arrangement, especially the backups on this tune. What fun!!

Thanks a lot Llarion. Yeah I am getting more confident with my "writing" abilities. I think part of that is like you said, just having fun. I don't have anything deep or meaningful to say, so I just try to blow the roof off with fun and energy. Thanks again. :)

Anytime, brother, I'm a big fan.

Very, very good. If I had to find a gripe, I'd say compress your vocals a bit (more?) and knock them back into the mix a little and then crunch everything together a bit. It comes across a little bit like a punk band with a country producer... just very clean and pretty.

oh, i just can't stop listening that...

you're genius, greg. i'm pretty sure this is the best home recorded song i've ever listened to. very good mixing. but the song itself, performance, mood, it is really top notch. kind of stuff that would make me go after an album and buy it. record a demo and find a deal, fast! you're losing money.

Lol. Okay, thanks for listening. In my own defense, I want it to sound clean. I don't try to learn home-recording so I can sound like some DIY garage junk. Man, imagine how good the Dead Kennedy's would have sounded with good recording equipment/technique. :D

Lol. Thanks a lot. No record deal for me. No one would buy this.
:o

Greg. You have to do one more cover for me. The song "Time". Not sure who did the original, but the Ramones did a version. Would love to hear your take one it. Nice work dog !!!

Thanks man. Do you mean "Time Has Come Today"? It was originally done by The Chambers Brothers back in like 1969. The Ramones did a cover of it in like 1983. It's cool song with lots of trippy shit going on. I might give it a go. :D

hells yea.
I dig that Iggy stuff you did too, great drums man.
