My mix:

It was fun to mix this! Thanks NL5!

I'm liking this mix.
The vocals have very dodgy pitch shifting on them though. I know you were trying to make certain notes different from the original notes but some parts sound very unnatural.

Did you re record the kick drum at all? You say you never used re sampling, it kinda sounds like you re recorded the kick drum.

Thanks! I just melodyne'd the vocals in 10 minutes. Maybe something went wrong :)

Just the normal parallel compression and stuff. Nothing unusual.

Edit: It was not Melodyne. I will fix the vocals.

Mix 2
I decided to beef everything up and go a bit more with the "on-tape" feel, I think it works for this song even though it does present a little more apparent clipping at some points (actually all my meters were hovering around -0.5, so it might be L2 that's introducing that effect). If no one has gripes with this mix, it's my final. Oh yeah, question, is editing with Melodyne allowed? I'd do that for a client, but I'd also consider that replacing a part, so... if it's not allowed, I guess this is my final mix, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Yours is one of my favorite mixes so far I don't know if the Pitch correction thing got answered but I used V-Vocal on mine, the only thing I can suggest (which you all ready know) is the dynamics seem to get lost in certain areas, and the cymblas seam a little strange probably from the comp/limiting, the other little thing is the placement of the backing vocals

Good job.

Found that the problem was that I was using Fire Fox.

Alot of ear fatigue with some mixes. Very loud and harsh. A couple listens and my ears hurt. What they say about the loudness wars is true. If its not loud as hell it isnt good. :) I wonder what the knob that says "volume" does  Anyway there are some good mixes hear and some harsh ones. Good luck.

Just some thoughts, the drums seem a little brittle and distant. Especially the snare, it almost sounds like an electronic snare. I like the general sound of the vocals, but they have a feel to them that's... I don't know how to put it... under water? Somewhere there are some mids or high mids missing. I also think the delay on them is throwing me off.

Over all, aside from the drums, sounds like a good mix. Good job.

Thanks for the listen, took some of your suggestions and made a few tweaks. you were right about the snare, I was spending a lot of time on the bottom end, which I normally find easy, found out my subs crossover got set to around 140hz where it should be at 85hz that made a difference!

So this is my final:

Only things I can think of are the toms are a bit weak, and overall tone is a bit low-mids heavy but definitely nowhere near the muddy-regions.
Also the vocals could be more present, they are loud but not that clear.
A cut in the low mids would sort that out, maybe also with a small high-mid boost.

You did the guitars nice for the last section, nice and smooth. Mine are a bit more grizzly, but I cant be feked changing it. :)

Overall nice job man,
Eck
