Yes, Rick became a jerk in the end...

For Christ's sake, leave the smart arse crap for the Cave...........or better still take it to Ez's place

Dragon, Rick may have acted like a jerk.......but don't over-react. Keep it in perspective...

"You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Dogman again."

Whether or not there are stickies isn't a big deal. Neither was Fitz's drama-post complaining about it.

Seems that most of those with an edgy style are gone. Too bad because they helped keep a lot of the real dysfunctional stuff (* see below) that happens around here in check.

* EDIT: By real dysfunctional stuff I mean the posing, faking, bragging, etc. that happens occasionally at HR.

Let's be realistic. Questioning the parentage of the site operator in explicit vulgar terms and suggesting various anotomically impossible acts of onanism in bold 16 point typeface isn't really "edgy". It's kind of psychotic. Perfectly appropriate in the Cave.

There's a hundred ways Rick could have posted this that wouldn't result in a ban or even a warning. Rick chose to do it this way. Life's all about choices, isn't it?

hotmail is horrible for spam... I tried an experiment once and made a new hotmail address, gave it to nobody, sent no messages, etc. Just logged in to it every so often to make sure it wasn't deleted...surely, a few months went by and it was getting a fair share of spam... go with gmail or something like that, never had much in the way of spam there.
I've been with hotmail for years, and yes i do get the occasional spam, but it's mostly from sites I've signed upto, or whatever. I get a few per week, but it's not loads.

So, Dragon... Are you gonna say any more on the subject? Are you even checking back to this thread?

If that's the best you have to say guess what my answer is................:D

You see, thats how mature adults sort out their grievances. No large red lettering, no head in a bag, no dismembered torso of a man in his late fifties...

How would you sort someone ignoring you? Imo, large red lettering, head in a bag, dismembered torso of a man in his late fifties, is the best way to get attention. :P

Damn, man; how'd you find out about the dismemberment? Is that similar to being banned? Getting rid of a member./......?

:p:p

HR has for the last couple years been tolerant of aggressive vulgar confrontational behavior as long as it didn't include physical threats. Even when it included stupid insults. That was a good thing IMO as musicians are generally passionate people with sometimes less-than-ideal tactfulness or verbal finesse. I saw many times where the "general will" of the group effectively moderated extremes of behavior simply by their comments. How many instances can you remember where someone said something way out of line, like Fitz's thread, and member after member would chime in, saying essentially, "hey man, that's not the way to do it", the OP would re-state their thought in a more tactful way, apologies would go back and forth, and all would be well. To be realistic, banning a long-time member with many good contributions because of one bad post isn't good judgment IMO. Are you only as good as your most recent post? Have you ever said anything angry and insulting at HR? Many of us have.

Anyway, I'm done with this.

Sorta how I feel about shit like this...Rick was out of line...we'll call him an asshat. There might have been a better way to deal with the situation besides banning. If everyone got banned for being an asshat sometimes, then 90% of the board would be banned, and the 10% remaining would be too intimidated to post their real thoughts.

But, just my thoughts, so.....

I don't really see the point in banning. As soon as I read a line or two of Rick's screed, I just put him on the ignore list (same thing I did with Chris Harris and some other douchebags who have annoyed me over the years). No fuss, no muss. I selectively 'ban' whoever I want, no need for Dragon to do it for me.

However, it is his forum, he can do whatever the hell he wants. And everyone can take it as seriously as they see fit.

Why bother?
Too right! Dragon has helped me before, after I pm'd him, and for that I'm thankful. But he has ignored Rick for years, and i do agree with what Rick was asking for.

.......You know, I guess that's all true.

I've said lots of angry and insulting things at HR, but never anything specifically designed to provoke the anger of the owner of the site.

The timing is a little weird. That's all I have to say about that.

I like Rick a lot, too. He's been helpful both times I've built rooms to record in.

I can't honestly say, however, that I would do things differently if this were my site. Keep in mind the context of the post. This wasn't in the cave, and it wasn't a reply in a heated thread. It was the OP.

In fact, I can honestly say that if I ever got really really pissed at somebody because of totally inappropriate comments about me and mine - and specifically directed at me in a public manner - I would ban that person's ass pretty quick.

I don't think it's fair to expect somebody to act like you would. I don't think it's fair to expect somebody to feel like you might.

Dogman might be capable of letting things roll and taking a wait-and-see approach to that kind of behavior, but I'm certainly not - and I don't think I'm a completely unreasonable person.

I think it's fair to say that Rick took his chances with Dragon posting like he did, regardless of the merit of his requests or the frequency with which they were made or ignored. He had an opportunity to not post what he did, and he had further opportunities to edit or soften his comments.

He has an ongoing opportunity to right things with Dragon. I hope he avails himself of that opportunity.

Nicely put Supercreep.
Rick chose to leave but with a smell left behind so closing the thread neutralised that particular odour & if he's banned that complies with, formalises and amplifies his wishes.
For some reason or other people are adding sulphur to the dying embers so that the stinky bit remains.
Respect his wishes, remember him if you wish & in whatever form you best prefer & remembering that he chose to go...
LET IT GO!
