Suck 'em and see!
seen one in the classifieds last night and went n bought it for £100, that's aprox $200 USD @ todays exchange rate.

It had a full set of new tubes 6 months ago and 2 new celestion g12T-100 speakers fitted. I basicaly bought it for half the price I could have bought the new tubes n speakers for. It's got a few crackly pots that contact cleaner doesn't want to fix so am putting it in the local shop tomorrow to have it looked at, maybe some pots replaced.

I'm really loving the sound from both channels and it's a HELL of a loud MOFO for the acclaimed 120 watts

Got one, played through one? care to share your thoughts?

Yea, I have one that I bought around 30 years ago. it has some use, but I never really warmed up to it. The over drive is 70's Peavey and the clean channel and reverb kind of suck too. The original tubes are still in it. I have a variety of peavey amps ..... the only reason why I have them is because they are built to take a fair amount of abuse not because they sound good.
It is very loud with black widow speakers.
Mostly I just play my Traynor YCV40WR these days ....... the only Peavey amps I would even consider at this point are the Classic 30 and Classic 50.

Good to know Henry.

I found a review, well a few to be honest and someone suggested dropping some groovy tubes in it which this one's been fitted with.

I have an old Viper 2x10 tube combo (australian I think) from the 70's and the peavy just knocks the socks off it. Didn't sound fantastic when I brought it home and plugged it in but after an hour and the tubes were up to full heat it just came into a new light.

I think maybe lately I've heard so many modeling amps and new retro amps with a starved tube plate the fuller almost muddy tones are a refreshing surprise.

Built like a tank too, sure fire hernia material

I also bought one in the 80's, it blew me away in the store. So I paid big bucks for it and it never really sounded good. The phase was interesting for a while but that got annoying too. I sold it for a lot less. I recently played through another one and even though it was novel, it was still lacking. My opinion is its a bit of a dog, but for what you paid for it, good score. Im sure you will find some thing you like about it. Mine had black widows too, maybe the celestions make a big difference
