I've been thinking, (ok... no mean jokes)... :)

Anyway I think our personal profiles are lacking, at least those few tidbits that we see at the upper right such as:

Rep Power:

I think it would help the forum if we listed one or two styles or genres of music we are trying to accomplish something with, For example the category could be called music style or interest. The list would look something like this:

Classical
Jazz
R&B
Sacred Music (Church)
Classic Rock
Progressive Rock
New age
Hate Grind
Death Metal
Rap/Hip-hop
Bebop
Industrial
Electronica
Country (and Western) :D
Etc.

This would be helpful because very often when someone poses a question the first thought is what are they trying to do. Really everything we talk about here is affected by what sort of music (if any) we are into.

As an example I would recommend completely different mics and techniques to a gangsta rappa than I would for a lady wanting to record the church bell choir next Sunday. First off I would recommend a mic with a switch for the rapper and have him tape it down in the off position while performing. Ok, enough with me trying to be funny. :D[Laugh track here]:D

Seriously though, :D[audience still laughing]:D no really you’re too kind... please, please... [Crowd hush to hear Beck's profundity] take for instance Daniel’s thread about semi-pro gear and what it can do. The answer really depends on the type of music you play and your aspirations. [Several in the audience nod in agreement]

When Dragon restores signatures we could put info there. I know a lot of members in various forums list some of their equipment, which is helpful when trying to connect with like members that can help each other out. [The room bursts into applause…except for the brunette in the front row who threw me her bra and then fainted)] But that’s Rock ‘n Roll… least wise, used to be.

Anyway, I know I would answer more questions if I had more info upfront. Sometimes I just don’t feel like playing 20 questions. KnowhatImean?

Good post, Tim. I'll see what I can do, at least for my part.;)

I do like the idea of putting informative stuff in the signature area (when it's restored by the almighty Dragon). Stuff like gear and also musical influences and type of music one is trying to record. Kinda like a quick, relevant bio, easily obtained below each member's post.

Other good information to have in the signature:

1-Whether or not you're asking a serious question, or if you just like wasting time.
2-If you disagree with everything people say in real life, too (ie, the weather isn't nice at all, or your 4 track Portastudio is better than all other recorders, including 2" 24 track machines)
3-Whether or not you're generally an asshole.

:-P

In all seriousness though, as soon as a signature thing works, I'll let them know that I listen to all sorts of rock music, I disagree with people all the time, and that I am generally an asshole.

Those are varieties of a form of expression.
Any discussion in respect to any of those complies perfectly with the "main point" (see above). It is so, and! for those who are involved - it is enjoyably ! so! :p.

...switch...
To get beyond the "main point" one shall rather discuss the "switch" itself , but NOT in which position to keep it.
But then (after one gets down and dirty with "the switch") there will be nothing left to discuss, and who would want that?

So?
So, I'd say: "Keep it "ON" in the "main point" position :D "

Once again ZEE you read my mind. Those were my thoughts exactly... I think... but I've slept since then, so I'm not sure. It'll come back to me once I haven't slept some more.

I am not aware of a better and more universal way to comply to "the main point" than sleeping. :D

btw, just a side note, yet to the point :) :
I actually have had a rather serious and lengthy thoughts going through my brains in respect to your post. And that's why I've said what I've said.
In my mind It all comes down to this: To be MORE Relevant and ACTUALLY Helpful you'd have to derail 99% of all the questions posted on HR boards first !, which means, that you'd have to derail pretty much the entire forum. And if you dare try to do so, you'll end up with something rather much too bright and much too shiny in the middle of your facial expression, and may I add - you'll get what you deserve, and justifiably so :p heh heh... You'll look like Rudolph at the end.
So, enjoy the ride just as is and don't touch the damn "switch"
:D

Nah... see, you just have the posters be more specific because the answer will be different depending.

Take for instance a variation on the same basic question.

1. Basic question: "Is there any benefit in mastering from digital to analog half-track reel-to-reel?"

Beck's answer: "Yes"... or if I feel like playing 20 questions my reply will be, "What kind of music are you recording and what are you recording it with?"

Original Poster: Dead silence for 3 months and the poster still has a post count of "1" never to be heard from again.

2. Question with more detail: "Hi, I'm a rapper using Reaper. Will mastering to tape help my sound?"

Beck's answer: "No" or "It can't hurt, but you're probably wasting your time. And hey, smile now and then ... I won't tell your homies."

Then I post a link of soulful, talented musicians who seem happy and yet cool:

Yeah, yeah. It's all mind game.
Answer "Yes", period - Is actually the derail. Because you actually giving no answer, while provoking the questioner to get involved and 'stimulate' the process known as "thinking". Of course, it only works in case when the questioner is really interested in the subject of matter, while on the other side - you are prepared to be willing to waste a lot of time :D
**********
So,....
The answer is:
-"Yes."
The follow up will be:
-"What kind?"
Your follow up will be:
-"It depends on what kind of music you recording and what you record it with."
*********
Then if the questioner still cares to find something out, he / she then will provide some details, but it will be done not as answering the question (reactive (or, say, passive) form of response), but instead, - as initiation (active form), just the way it should be at the first place.
One may ask: "So, what's the difference?"
The difference is huge, Universe Like huge. But, well, it's a larger topic.
So, you have to derail first :)

blah blah :o
