Steve Albini and Analog versus Digital

An interesting video, but they seemed to cloud the issues of analog vs. digital recording with CDs vs. mp3s. Obviously these thing are independent.

I sure would like for someone to conduct a blind test besides Digidesign. Obviously a built-in bias there. I wonder if the judges really had to respond as fast as they did with those silly little signs.

When they did that test they said that each song had been mixed on either analog or digital, not tracked. Kind of a stupid test.

I declined to participate in the test, because I knew it would be a retarded fuckfest of stupid.

...and I'm inclined to agree.

That test that digidesign put up was comparing the ssl plugins against the real thing as well. Which, to me, is seeing how well digital can immulate analog, clouding it further.

You can see the comparison on their site-http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=49&langid=100&itemid=25669

It was interesting but at the same time, i felt that it was combining the positives of an mp3 with digital in any quality to many of the disadvantages of analog in the dialog. And again, in the test, it seems a bit unfair when you are comparing something that is made to just immate analog that is digital to analog, vs, a real world senerio.
